What's special about the mSATA version? I have mSATA SSDs in three X220s and all are the "non" mSATA palmrests. The drives fit fine. :??:

Mine is a 4291, hence the mSATA request.
I can't find any mSATA palmrest pictures anywhere, so I thought I'd ask here.
Can't tell you the difference either...
But some palmrests have aluminum shielding inside and others have not, could it be that?

After a long search I found the exact same one that I have: http://www.ebay.com/itm/201522521252
That is: every label on that palmrest is identical to mine.

According to the Lenovo partslist mine has a 04X3780 Dasher-1FRU Palmrest ASM w/o FP which doesn't even seem to exist...

Guess I need to do a bit more time-wasting...

Hmmm....interesting. I got a X220 with mSATA. Never thought a special palm rest existed.

Doubt it. I just replaced my father's X220 palmrest and both the old and new have aluminum shielding just like that. FRU number on the new one is 04X3779 and manufactured 09/2014. Not sure of the old FRU but I can check.

Both have aluminum and miles of space for mSATA drives to fit. I've personally not heard of an X220 that can't go mSATA because of the palmrest so maybe all of them share the same plastic mold.

Based on this:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/migr-77191 (parts 23, 26)
and the HMM (parts 6, 23)
(ignoring the fact they are showing two different sets of FRUs)
It looks like "and mSATA" edition was only used/needed? in machines that shipped with 80GB mSATA as original equipment.
