[WTB]: Do You Have a Lenovo ThinkPad W701ds ONLY!

#1 Post by AWFRONT » Mon Oct 10, 2016 4:26 pm

WTB: Hi everyone! I am looking to buy a Lenovo ThinkPad W701ds ideally with the I7-920xm CPU and preferably DUAL Standard or SSD Storage options. I would also prefer that the model is equipped with the FullHD main display, WACOM Digitisers and the Colour Calibrators. Other options or the lack of is not a major issue but availability of high RAM, Dual HDD is a bonus.

I may consider machines that lack HDD Drives or may need certain parts to complete but nothing too troublesome.
The BIOS Supervisor passwords must be disabled prior to collection or shipping and any security features such as CompuTrace if active must be disabled prior to sale for peace of mind and to prevent post purchase issues.
Given how old the model is, I would appreciate if your price reflects factors such as age, condition and specification of the laptop.
I am strictly NOT interested in the standard W701 model. I only need the DS (Dual Screen) model.
I have a specific budget for each model so if you would like to turn your unwanted W701ds ThinkPad into cash then please send me a pm with some images and details of the spec and your asking price. Also, note that I am a private buyer and I am not buying for profit. Only want one for my personal use or as a spare as NOW I am the proud owner of a W700ds thanks to deal reached with forum member LavaChild. Thank You once again to you and this very special forum.
I am located in London, United Kingdom so unless it is cash on collection, I would prefer to make all payments by paypal for mutual peace of mind.

Thank you and look forward to hearing from you!

If that seller still has his unit for you to buy, that would be absolutely perfect for you. He's in the same country and... well, the same area by the looks of it, so a craigslist-style meetup is entirely possible to avoid shipping charges/worry about packing. This is also a style of transaction which appears to be preferred by the seller as well.

This would also avoid the costs and inconvenience of posting a valuable/heavy item. I *may* consider posting - Please contact me if this is something you require.

If it turns out he's already sold the unit... I might be able to help you- but I haven't really decided what to do with mine yet, and I'm in California, which would require International shipping, making it quite expensive.
Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

Hi Medessec,
Thanks for your reply. I will see how it goes wih that seller but the machine I am really after is one of the W701DS models. In case anyone is curious I have made a full list of all the type numbers with all the factory specifications of all units contanining the i7-920xm CPU.

On a different note, if I am not successful with finding the ideal machine soon then I am going to save up and wait for the ACER Predator 21X which in my opinion would be the world's craziest and most sophisticated laptop when it is released early next year. But a ThinkPad W701ds/W700ds is still a ThinkPad no matter what follows it.

Indeed- hopefully it works out for you. Shooting for a W701DS and only that means you will be playing the waiting game... those very rarely change hands or show up, and I've seen regular W701s trade around for nearly a grand... people don't like letting go of them. Getting an i7-920XM (or probably even a 940XM for that matter) wouldn't be too big of an issue, as you can upgrade it yourself. Perhaps if you crave the best of the best, and have the money to pay for it, you could wait for it to come along. But the W700ds does everything exactly the same, it just has hardware that is one generation older.

I've been eyeing the Predator 21X myself... I gotta say- If you're interested in having an absolutely insane laptop, and nothing but; the Predator is going to be not only the smarter choice, but better for the times, since the modern hardware and insane tech will chew through any task you throw at it. Both the Predator 21X and the W700DS/W701DS are cool monster machines, but the W700DS/W701DS are really just pieces of novelty and Thinkpad history, collectible artifacts... moreso that than a laptop you can actually use for gaming, work, or anything modern (unless your particular gaming or work isn't affected by older hardware).

If you're going to have both machines, the W700ds is basically just a super interesting piece of novelty to have, and the Predator 21X is what you'll be showing off as you become the undisputed king of any LAN party or graphics arts business meeting. I suppose it's pretty much down to exactly what you want... but this is definitely the best place to find a well kept W700ds/W701ds, so you're on the right track.

Hello everyone;
It appears that since my original post, I have not been lucky to find either a W701ds or W700ds. If anyone here can possibly be of any help then this would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone! Just want to say thank you to forum member LavaChild who has sold me his Lenovo W700ds and want to say thanks to every other forum member including Medessec who has been very helpful in addressing my requirement.

I am now the proud owner of a Lenovo W700ds and my next mission is to look for a W701ds in really good condition and with good specs. I know this will be a difficult and lengthy task but if anyone out there wants to help out then please do get in touch with me.

Thank you all once again!

Hi everyone! It has been a long time since my orignal post in order to buy a Lenovo W701DS. Just wanted to see if anyone still has one. I still have my Lenovo W700ds but would love to buy a W701ds in the ultimate spec of its time. See my original post above. Thanks and look forward to hearing.

There seems to be one for sale in Germany here. Use Google Translate if you're not fluent in German.
