WTB: Classic ThinkPads
WTB: Classic ThinkPads
Gonna start a youtube channel, will be maxing out older thinkpads and running various tests on them. I have a 600E, T43, and T61P in my possession. I would like to add the T23, T30, and a 380XD. That way, I will have spanned all the major Intel chips from Pentium, Pentium II, Pentium III, Pentium 4-M, Pentium M, and core 2. Not considering anything with a core i3/i5/i7 just yet, those systems are still relevant.
I'd like to get this as cheaply as possible because I will be swapping in my own components most likely.
The only other thinkpad's i'd REALLY like are the W701DS and the transnote

Re: WTB: Classic ThinkPads
I have a T23 in 9.5/10 condition aside from a few dust in the LCD and a chipped bottom-left corner of the BASE+PALMREST. As for cheap price, idk how cheap you want. It already has 1GB RAM, WLAN without antenna, and Windows 7.
I don't have 380 but i have 390X which is piii but a huge difference from tualatin piii in T23/A30
For p4, i have A31p if you need. Instead of worrying about bad RAM slot, you need to worry about the GPU desoldering but at least that FIREGL is indeed better than the standard 7500

Re: WTB: Classic ThinkPads
I might be willing to loan out my TransNote for a period of time. I don't really want to sell it but if you want to run some tests on it (it's already maxed out in terms of RAM and there's only one CPU option available; soldered to the system board)... I would allow you to use it for the purposes you mention. I just booted it up and it's still functional after my documented resurrection from CRC errors, despite the primary battery only holding a 30 second charge.
I also have an A31p (has the P4-M 2.5 in it now) and a few other examples of the various generations you are interested in I could lend in the same fashion if you desired.

Re: WTB: Classic ThinkPads
Well I hate to say but there are several problems if you do a loan:
1: Shipping cost
2: Shipping reliability
3: I find it hard to control what I do exactly on all my computers and sometimes private information can be hard to reverse
4: Cosmetics wears that will be worth noticing and may be annoying but far from actual functionality defects (e.g. Last time I lend my T43 to my friend's friend whom I don't know and that guy scratched off the Windows XP sticker which was sitting there in mint condition
)
5: Damages that can be blamed on nobody. E.g. The GPU started to fail on that A31 for no reason which is a common issue for A3x and then the owner will have NO IDEA who's fault that is
Just things to consider if you plan to do loan

Re: WTB: Classic ThinkPads
I wouldn't be comfortable with borrowing, simply because of too many variables that could result in a damaged or dead computer, and I would hate for that to happen with rare birds like the Transnote.
I have a T41 with a T43 board in it (bad LCD, busted ultranav, bad battery) as well as T61 (busted ultranav and battery) with the nvidia 140M in it for trade for any of the other units I need (T30, T23, or 380XD)
Also has anybody any experience with msata to IDE conversion? T43 and older don't take sata so I'm trying to figure out how to stuff a SSD in those older units.

Re: WTB: Classic ThinkPads
I used an mSATA to IDE adapter enclosure off eBay in my T42p for a time. It ran fine with Windows 7, but under XP disk IO was pathetic; less than 5 MB/s under all circumstances. In the end I opted for a traditional hard disk.

Re: WTB: Classic ThinkPads
Which type number for your T43 board? 18xx, 2668, 2669, 2678 or 2679? As I told you before, my T23 may be out of your interest but I will consider trading my T22 depending on which board you have in T43Raidriar wrote:I wouldn't be comfortable with borrowing, simply because of too many variables that could result in a damaged or dead computer, and I would hate for that to happen with rare birds like the Transnote.

EDIT: FYI, T43 can take SATA mod if you have experience and also you can stuff a SATA hard drive into the Ultrabay if you buy the correct adapter. There is no point of getting mSATA or M2 as they price higher than normal SATA SSDs and T43 only takes normal SATA drives thru that adapter or SATA-Mod

Re: WTB: Classic ThinkPads
Or if you have a fully working 26xx or 27xx board, I can help you rebuild your T43 by trading yours with my 2668 board which everything except main hard drive port is working (Ultrabay to SATA adapter + SATA with genuine Windows 10 included) plus a working palmrest unit in generically B Grade plus my factory 6-cell battery in yellow battery health that lasts around 20-45 minutes of charge
I can also offer a 100% original T41p SXGA+ LCD assembly for $30 (LCD itself has some dust inside and other parts of the assembly are in very good condition considering how long it has aged
