W520 4282-4YU... Fair Pricing? UPDATE 1/10/17... DEAD ISSUE

EDIT: As of today, Jan 10/17, these units are no longer available for purchase.

Instead of the three W520's available, there was a SKID of FIFTY-TWO machines, the majority being 4282-4YU models. Unfortunately, my contact within the company (although he is in the IT department he has only been there about a year) was unaware that they were to be dealt back in to the dealer as trade-ins toward the purchase of their new laptops, which he says are split between P50 and P70 models. I was unable to ascertain the trade-in value. Evidently in the mix were several higher-spec'd W530 machines as well.

The dealer is in the Toronto area, and I can certainly contact him regarding a purchase of these units if there is any interest, but I imagine his prices will be much higher than I was quoted on the initial lot of three.

I apologize to those who PM'd me in search of one of these. If I had realized that they were a good deal on my first perusal of the lot of three machines, I may have tried to purchase them on the spot.

Should I discover them advertised on "The Interweb" I'll post the link.

Again, sorry to disappoint those who were interested (Myself included!)

Regards.

Dave

Hi Gang.

I have a few days left on right-of-first-refusal to pick up several off-lease W520 4282-4YU models for Cdn $335 (US $250) each. They're available locally, so no shipping charges.

Basic specs (visual inspection and as per the PSREF):

I7 2860QM (Quad-core, 2.5 Ghz Turbo boost to 3.6 Ghz, 8 Mb L3 Cache), 8Gb Ram, 15.6" 1920 x 1080 WS FHD screen, Intel HD3000 and Nvidia Quadro 2000M discrete video (2 Gb Video Memory), 9-cell battery (all between 50%-62% capacity), all with DVD burners, Fingerprint, Bluetooth, 1 x 3.0 USB and 2 x 2.0 USB. Intel 6300 WiFi. OEM 500 Gb/7200 hard drives come with all the units. Win 7 x64 O/S.

All are in good condition, visually about an 8 on a scale of 10. No major chips, dings, etc, just some light cover scratches. All with A/C adapters but no docks.

Not being familiar with the series, I just wanted to check with the connoisseurs of the W520 series if the pricing seemed fair and also what "Gotcha's" I should be looking for. There is a local retailer who is selling T520's, similar specs except I5 processor for $430 Cdn ($325 U.S), but after checking them out, I think I prefer the W-series as a desktop unit.

I think these retailed for around $3500 when they were introduced, and I am amazed that they have depreciated sooooo much in such a short period of time!

Any and all input appreciated as to whether these W520's seem to be a good catch or a "Thanks, I'll pass".

Thanks. Regards.

Dave

I think that's a good price. I bought mine with very similar specs about 15 months ago and had to spend about $475 US on it and its AC adapter.

That's quite high end for W520, with FHD screen, Quadro 2000M, and 500GB HDDs. The price is about what feebayers think they can get for T520s. Get one?

If I were in the market for a W520, that would be the sort of specs I'd go for.
Check with ajkula66/George what his preference is (or was).

I can add that those are good prices. I've been watching eBay for W520 for months and anything with those type of specs are at least $350 and are in fair condition, often with no OS or HDD.

Based on those specs, I'd expect to pay $400+ for those on eBay.

That's a good price, but search on this site for back threads
on how to service a W520. You can expect years of reliable
service from a machine which has been reconditioned to new
condition.

When I get a W520, that's exactly the system I would look for.

Had I some spare $$ at the moment I'd be in for one.

So what price are these coming for? My dad has a W510 and loves it, so might consider getting a backup spare for a good price.

Pricing will be my actual cost plus shipping...still working on a deal, as there may be some W530 models available from the same source as well.
