Be sure to get the correct 230W charger for the Lenovo W700/W701. I recommend part # 42T5291 / 42T5290 which works great and is a genuine Lenovo charger.

Can this be right? Minimum $79 + Shipping for 230W adapter? eBay and Amazon both. Anyone know where they are available for less? Kind of changes the economics of the deal.

It's correct, they are quite expensive.

The 170w W700 charger will work fine, but will throw an error on boot (which can be disabled) indicating the possibility of lower performance and increased time to charge battery vs 230w charger, but I typically haven't noticed either of those. I can include a 170w charger with the machine for an additional $50.

I just bought one of your machines, and am wondering what kind of error
you get when booting with a 170W supply. I looked the machine up and
Lenovo apparently sold them with both 170w and 230w supplies; perhaps
you only need the 230w for an XM cpu?

Of course I can t find that screenshot I took with the 170w adapter a month ago, and now I don t have any 170w adapters to take another one! Basically it just says the performance may be lower without the 230w charger and it may take longer to charge the battery...

Those 2 sold in less than a day.

so I just ordered one.

If you search for:
"Genuine Lenovo 230W 20V Laptop AC Power Adapter 45N0060 45N0061"
you'll see one. (I believe this to be the correct adapter.)

I'll report on it in a week or 2 if anybody is interested.

But, the 170W adapter might work, because the higher end chips (920XM
and FX 3800M consume a lot more power than the chips in this unit.
