The laptop ran me about $800 all told and ~8-10 hours of labor (did not have a flashing setup prior to this). I started with a $110 T430 with no HDD, 4GB of RAM, and an i5-3210M.
Here's the list of modifications:
- i7-3840QM CPU (45W)
- dGPU Heatsink / no dGPU
- 1600 x 900 Glossy Alienware Display
- Like New Classic Keyboard w/EC Flash
- New TouchPad Sticker
- BIOS Flashed / WLAN Whitelist Removed / AES-NI Unlocked / Advanced Menu Unlocked
- Intel 7260 AC WLAN Card / WiFi LED Works
- 16GB RAM 1600MHz
- 135W Genuine Adapter
- Cleaned / Refurbished / Minor Blemishes and Scratches Only
- Like New OEM Battery - 93Wh Capacity
- 1TB SSD
- Overclocked to 4.2GHz w/ThrottleStop (MSR 0x194 unlock)
I'm asking $1000 + shipping as configured above, but can remove the SSD and knock $200 off.

I reflashed the BIOS on this machine with one that allows overclocking the Turbo Ratio Limits. The machine now runs at a nice permanent 4.0GHz - 4.2GHz with ThrottleStop.
