WTB W701 Parts Express Card or CF/Express Card Board

#1 Post by MisterB » Mon Jun 19, 2017 4:43 pm

I have a project W701 2500-3BU. It has an express card/smart card reader and I'd like to replace it with either the 34mm/54mm express card board, FRU 60Y4927 or the 34mm/ CF reader, FRU 60Y4931.

I'm looking for either one in the $20-$25 price range. Ebay has one 60Y4927 at $64.99 which is more than I'm willing to pay. There is a listing for the W700 version for 14.99 shipped which unfortunately won't fit in a W701

The main issue with this W701 is a power connector that is missing contacts which requires me to do a complete disassembly to replace and I wouldn't mind replacing the smart card reader when I'm doing that. It's not critical to me right now but I'd certainly buy one of these boards at the right price.

Also needed is the HD cover which is only available from China right now on eBay. If anyone has one for $15 or less that can ship from the US, I would be interested.
I've got a T580, 2 W500s, a W520, an X201T, an X220T, an 3 X61Ts, a 15" T60, a 14" T60P, a 15" UXGA T60P, a 15" T42p a W701, and my first Thinkpad, a 770X.

Bumping this with an update.

I have the W701 fully working now and have the HD cover and caddies on order along with a battery. I would still like to replace the smart card board. The CF/Express card board, 60Y4931, is preferred. I have a CF board in my W700 discovered that it can be used as a bootable drive. I hope that this is the same for the W701. It would be an easy way to add Linux distros to this beast when I'm not using it for photography.
