Thinkpad A31P - lots of parts -no boards- to give away later this Year
Hello all,
I shall try to fix one or two of my remaining A31P, at least one for my personal historic interest.
But I do have really lots of parts left from the time my wife, my children and I used these machines on a daily basis. I had rebuilt those for my children from defective ones, all were runing above 2,5Ghz, all were running 2GB memory, all were running 7200rpm hdd....
I do have much to much of the mechanical parts, I do have some motherboards that do not work and several UXGA-Displays, that would need exchanging the tiny bulb (I never managed to do that as my fingers and my technique did not fit the job.)
If anyone is in need for such parts, just let me know (pm), I'll look whether I can help.
My wife demands that I clean out our "Arbeitszimmer", our homeoffice, we are to do our paperwork in, so in autum latest all remains unused will be "recycled"....

hmm? When are you gonna list the parts here? Cuz I do think I will need some of the parts. If I were to replace the bulbs, do I need IPS-specific CCFL bulbs? What are some of the good guides available online for those IDTech displays?

Hello KfzHu1229,
-- I'll have to look into my boxes, I think I have about five spare displays, I believe all of them need inverter and/or bulbs, but I would have to test them
-- As far as i can see, I have three untouched and "complete" backlights for an exchange.
RBS,
I think I know how too, in theory... In practice I did not manage to finish the exchange:
The problem is to have the (sensitive, extremly thin) bulb not only introduced into the place the bulb was placed before, but to have the two cables added in a way, that suits the physical layout (not to long, not to short, the right form).
My eyes are not young any more (to much work with Laptops, glases), You need to have bulb and cabling fixed while soldering, so You need better tools then mine and You need to give the cabling that perfect shape, that allows to close "perfectly" the casing of the display again.
I did not manage some Years ago, I did consider to try again just the other day, and I did stop befor using those spare backlights I still have.
Sad, but true
Thanks for Your advice and help, as You always do !!

Hello RMSMajestic ...
... i feel a slight assocciation to the smal village, home of Asterix and Obelix, the Romans never occupied ?? ....
To answer Your question:
-- Yes, I think I have several of those Cameras, one Microphone, both to add at the top of the display ...
-- No, I do not have this extra numerical pad, as I used to have PS2-keyboard&mouse on my dock.
Sincerely Yours
