Will Buy or Trade For: 3-Pronged US Power Cord
I would like to trade a 2-pronged US cord for a 3-pronged US cord if anyone has an extra one. I also have a 3-pronged UK cord should someone have a need for that instead. I would even be willing to purchase a 3-pronged US cord if someone has an extra one and no need for a trade.
Yes, I know I can go to the local Radio Shack or Home Depot and buy one for under $10, but maybe someone here has a similar need for a cord and we can do a trade. I already have more parts than I need.
Thanks,
Yak

Usually the "brick" part of the adapter itself has either 2 or 3 prong insert....does your 2 prong cord have 2 part insert or 3? All of my 3 prongers have 3 round circles to insert the cord and the 2 prongers have 2 circles to insert. I hope you understand what I'm saying...in other words, you have to exchange the entire unit....Let us know if the British version is different. I may be able to help, depending.

The brick has 3 holes in it with a wire in each hole... that's why I need a cord with 3 holes on the adapter end. That type cord will also have the 3 pronged "grounded" plug on the A/C end where it's plugged in the wall. I used to have an X31 that had this type a/c adapter with 3 (and a corresponding cord with 3), but I sold it, and unfortunately I sold the extra cords I had with it too thinking I'd never come across another a/c adapter with a 3 holed insert! The 3 holed/pronged versions are probably a safer design, though are likely not supplied often due to many situations where that 3rd ground prong would get in the way as not all places one might plug in for power have the 3 holed outlet.
Yes, I know that the 2 pronged cords don't fit the 3 holed insert adapters. The UK a/c adapter or "brick" is exactly the same as the US version, only the plug end of the cord is different (the specs are the same).
So, I need a US power cord with 3 holes on the a/c adapter end and a 3 pronged grounded plug on the "wall" end. That's all. In other words, picture a bowling ball and that's what the one end kinda looks like.

Gotcha....now it all makes sense what you need. I'll keep an eye out, but unfortunately the only way I can do a swap is to swap the entire brick as well, as I have no extra cords...did you look on eBay? Doesn't seem that it would be too difficult to find. If I find a 3 prong cord (could have one at work, but doubtful), I'll send it to you with a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter as well, so you can plug it into any outlet...just pay for shipping, it's yours free...just give me until tomorrow to check things out since I'm at home right now.
Btw, is this "exactly" what you're talking about?

Help me clean my desk?
A couple of options that might suit you. . . .
I'm getting ready to replace a really good travel power cord with interchangeable tips. It's thin, very light and has worked well to power up my Thinkpads and phones. Just don't travel much and the T-pad bricks have gotten smaller. Don't recall the brand, though I know Targus and other makers have put their names on it.
And somehow, I wound up with a three-prong APC surge protector even though I now have only a two-prong power brick. It's the PNotepro3 and if it's of any use to you, just say the woid.
