Looking for a TP 860. I am a unix kernel developer, would be fun to have and keep netbsd alive on.

Khipata has already sold almost all his collection, no 800s left.

So I am still looking for an 860!

Do tell us if you find other 800-series! Sounds like a good search project.

If you are flexible to one generation older, I have a 760EL sitting around. Though, I'd have to finish that OS install I've been meaning to do for a while.

(It has an empty hard drive, and while it posts well with power adapter, it is otherwise an empty shell for the moment.)
Thanks, but it's not a generation thing. The 800s are an entirely different species that use PowerPC CPUs, with OpenFirmware, and primarily run AIX.

My bad, I'm sort of new to this and I have a "modern" mindset to the way that computers are named. Good luck on your search.

Sorry for intruding.

In Japan actually you may have a couple of chances but not resorting to online sites. I remember that there were some niche places in akiba, one specialized on sgi but with also extra goods..

Well, one I remember was on the underground of the Tokyo Radio Department Store , if I remember right anyway... 11 years, but the gmaps image seems the same I remember.
From Sega Akiba, on one side of the building there's the train line and a street running parallel to the train line. That building is 30 meters from the corner, or maybe 50...

The place dealing with sgi and co was in one of the side streets, first or 2nd floor. Halfway the stairs used to have empty chassis of indigo2 as visual ads

mmm lot of changes.

An interesting place was on the backside of the train station, in a road full of audio small shops. There was , maybe is, a big dealer of laptops hidden at the 2nd floor reachable only with an elevator... quite not in a place you would expect ( I was carried by an old guy that knew a lot of places )

I have an 860 RS6000 if you're still interested. It boots to the CDE login screen or X windows and that's where I'm stuck at because I don't know the password, nor do I have AIX 4.1.5 or 4.2.1 media. I'm trying to get media but it's been elusive so far. The battery is dead (won't hold a charge), it does have the internal CD drive, external floppy drive, 3 button mouse and original case.

Cool, it'd be good for it to go to someone who'll put it to use. I've had it for years with little to no use. Was good to see that it still boots up and shuts down as expected. Annoyed that I don't remember the password and misplaced the media

You can reset the passwords by booting the CD install media, selecting a maintenance shell, mounting the drive, and editing the files in /etc/security directly. Any 4.1.4 or 4.1.5 disc will work; there's no special release that's needed for the laptops.

Thanks, problem is so far I can't find the 4.1.5 media to boot from and the 4.3.3 that I have doesn't seem to work. I came across this forum while trying to find somewhere online that I could download either 4.1.4 or 4.1.5. I also saw that 4.2.1 would supposedly work but I can't find that either.

I don't need the media, and your description of the boot is good enough condition for me. PM me to arrange a transaction.
