Sorry, no commercial sellers allowed here without asking Bill
I am in the market for a ThinkPad W520. Some software to be used and tasks will include QGIS, word processing, Microsoft Excel and Access, as well as watching videos (youtube, Netflix), downloading files, and your everyday internetting.
Approximate (minimum) system requirements are as follows:
HDD - The larger the better, i suppose.. or SSD, which some say are more robust
9 cell battery is preferred
Ideally, the unit would be in pretty good physical condition with no screen flaws
I chose the W520 based on what others have said, specs, and affordability. Looks like i could probably get one on eBay for $200 - 400.
Please feel free to chime in if you have a unit for sale, or if you have any thoughts regarding the specs needed to run GIS on a thinkpad.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
I've been comparing the T520 and the W520 that are available on eBay. I could go with a T520, but i kinda want one with the FHD - and there are some available.
It's been a couple of years since I've had a computer with GIS (ArcGIS on Dell E6xxx), and I've never used QGIS before. I read recommendations stating that hyper-threading via a quad-core was preferred.
I'm gonna go back and look a little closer at the T520.
