Sorry, no commercial sellers allowed here without asking Bill
I am an old forum member based in Nagoya, Japan. I want to replace my current T400s (16:10) with a portable 14 inch, may be with a T450/T460/T470 (I have used T430s but the screen feels small though I like having access to the DVD drive) and another 15.6 inch P50/P51 workstation (though seems heavier). I am open to suggestions to other machines too. I am an academic, mainly work with MATLAB and MS-office software and my internet browser remains open with many tabs. I never game though. Either should have at least 256 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM, (more is better) W10 64 Pro installed and activated. Everything should work properly. My budget is US$850 max for the workstation and may be US$550 max for the portable (including shipping to Japan and import charges).
Please inform if you have anything to sell either here or via eBay listing. Also please advise if I am looking for the wrong stuff.
I have Verified PayPal confirmed address and I can also pay by credit card. If shipping to Japan is a problem for you, I can arrange a US based parcel forwarder so that you can ship to an address within USA.
You REALLY need to check out Mercari and Yahoo Auctions. Set your filters right and you will find some T45x generation computers for good prices.
If you are handy you might also consider checking out the "junk" computers in Akihabara if you visit Tokyo sometime.
[You've got an offer to be shown around if you wish to take it.]
The P5x workstations - I've seen listings online from the US, but never in Japan. You'll have to see if anyone will ship to you and it will be quite expensive - maybe (at least) 200 USD for most FedEx like shipments.
Oh one other country you might consider shipping in from is China - if you can manage finding the computer on something like Taobao. I could help a bit with this, but my own Chinese is limited to University 1st year level course and Google Translate (haha)
^Actually, this will really help with the prices + shipping, but the gamble is always in quality control.
But yeah, if you can pay up to 50k - 80k yen then I think there will be even some computers on the mainland Japanese used sites (again, Mercari [mercari.jp] and Yahoo Auctions [auctions.yahoo.co.jp]). Anyway, enjoy the MATLAB and other academic software - I use them all far too much myself.
Edit: Just noticed you list yourself as an associate professor. You might visit my campus sometimes then.... (uh-oh)
