LF: Thinkpad A30p UXGA laptop or barebones
Looking for a Thinkpad A30p. MUST have the UXGA display. Don't need RAM/drives/power supplies or anything else.
Will entertain complete unit depending on price.
I am not interested in an A31p, A30 or A31.
If you have one please get in touch with specs & price.
I have a bunch of older Thinkpads/parts if you are also looking to trade.
Thanx

Re: LF: Thinkpad A30p UXGA laptop or barebones
What do you define as barebones?
Also, FYI, the only difference between a A30 and A30p motherboard-wise is that S-video in and 32MB of VRAM instead of 16MB.
I do have a complete A30p system but I need that system.
A30p motherboards are REALLY hard to come through, since most of them broke down due to that dreadful GPU desoldering issue.
I got hold of mine from eBay, and notified some forum members to buy as well, but they were not as lucky as I was and got motherboard with that same GPU desoldering issue.
I do also have a A31p system with a repaired IDTech UXGA display (backlight replacement) that I am fine with selling.
I also do have spare repaired IDTech UXGA displays from A30p and/or A31p.
I also have a brand new A30 motherboard as spare from that same seller that I bought my A30p mobo from.

Re: LF: Thinkpad A30p UXGA laptop or barebones
Well, actually there are a few more differences.
1. The A30p came with the 1.2Ghz chip. A30 had 933, 1000, or 1133Mhz.
2. The A30p has firewire.
3. The A30p was only available with the UXGA.
4. The A30p came with the Ultraport.
Now, I could upgrade the cpu, I don't use the ultraport, rarely use firewire, don't need S-Video in and don't game so 16MB vs 32MB isn't an issue.
Barebones would be a working system with display with no RAM/drives/covers/battery/etc. I have all of them.
Mainly just looking for a system that works that won't cost an arm and leg. I used an A22p system for a long time, but upgraded to the A30p and saw a huge improvement(faster RAM, More RAM, faster FSB, faster PATA controller) and have PATA & SATA caddies for it. Upgraded to a T60p after(still my daily driver - T7200/3GB/2TB/UXGA).
I have a motherboard/base for an A31p that I think works.. However, I was never a fan of the P4s and while the P4 is faster than the P3 (well a Tualatin 1.4ghz is as fast as a 2.0Ghz northwood in most things) and 2GB vs 1GB RAM., the battery life sucked and they got fairly hot from using them years ago.
I definitely prefer the UXGAs in the thinkpads over most other laptop LCDs. I do have some Dells with WUXGA (XPS 1710, Precision m6400, Inspiron 9300) but really don't care for the widescreen or the weight. I have an X61 Tablet but the XGA screen is really cramped.
I've looked for a W700/1ds but can't justify the cost. The T60p is probably the best thinkpad in my opinion, but the A30p does have the ability to use 2 bay drives.

I am talking about just the motherboard.larrystotler wrote: ↑Sun Apr 29, 2018 10:39 pmWell, actually there are a few more differences.

You are right about A30 not coming with 1.2Ghz chip, firewire, UXGA and ultraport, but A30 supports all of them (maybe not firewire) if you so desire and have no luck finding A30p.
I had my A30 upgraded with UXGA display, 1.2Ghz chip and Ultraport, as well as Intel 2200BG wifi before the board broke down and got replaced by a A30p one.
But I for one, was only lucky enough to find A30p motherboard for sale, not the complete unit.
Now I can sell a A31p system barebones (with semi-working RAM slots) but send you a 1.2Ghz PIII CPU, and then you can drop in a A30 board to have A30p experience if you can't find a working A30p system for sale.
