#1 Post by 2000sfanman » Fri May 11, 2018 11:39 am

Hi, I purchased a T410 with out a HDD and I'm looking for a Windows 7 Pro 64Bit T410 Recovery set. I'd like it to be a downloadable .ISO format but shipping would work as well. I'm willing to pay just shoot me a number. I found a 32 bit image online but I am really looking for the WIN 7 PRO 64Bit set. THANKS!

Hi all I recently received a T410 ThinkPad as a birthday gift for college/work and I have already upgraded the RAM to 8GB and have decided to repace the HDD with an SSD. It came pre installed with Windows 7 Pro. How do I install the SSD (Kingston SSDNow 60GB) and boot Windows 7 Pro on the SSD? I have a couple USB drives and an eSATA cable. I haven't been able to hook up the SSD by eSATA cable/USB power. Is the eSATA cable configured to detect the SSD, or do I need to mess with the BIOS? Any info would be helpful I really like this ThinkPad I just wish the battery lasted longer, even with the 9 cell, I noticed a dip in battery life when I upgraded the RAM.

Best regards

You have bought a 1.8" SSD haven't you? For some reason Lenovo put a 1.8" SSD/HDD into the T410, a 'standard' 2.5" SSD won't fit.

Assuming you have a 1.8" SSD and want to connect it via USB to transfer the OS across then you will need something like:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB3-0-Male- ... 58ca981356

But given you have a couple of USB drives, and assuming you have access to a CD/DVD drive, I would download a copy of redo and burn the iso to a CD:

http://redobackup.org/

Boot from the CD and use redo to backup the existing HDD onto an external USB drive (backup ALL partitions). Swap out the HDD for the SSD, this is straightforward, get the hardware maintenance manual:

https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/p ... 535_01.pdf

Boot redo again and use it to restore the images you've backed up to the new SSD. If you find you have a system that doesn't boot (happened to me when I changed the SSD in my T430*), then use boot repair (something else to download and burn to CD):

https://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair/home/Home/

All the tools I've pointed you at are linux (don't use windows anymore), but will work backing up, restoring or fixing boot problems with win7.

You don't need to make any changes in the BIOS.

And welcome to the wonderful world of Thinkpads. I've had them for at least the last decade, rock solid, reliable, built like a brick sh*thouse. Wouldn't consider anything else.

Forum etiquette - you asked a new question and should really have started a new topic and not tagged it onto another post. For next time...

* It's a couple of years since I swapped out the SSD in my T410 for a larger one and don't remember having problems with it not booting.

Normal T410 uses a 2.5", but the T410s uses 1.8" drives.

I'm also looking for W7 Pro X64 discs for a T410 machine type 2516DCU. If anyone has a torrent available. As a side question, does anyone know if there was a factory W8 Pro X64 for the T410? Thanks in advance!

You can read my prior comment if you need the discs. As for win 8, I've never seen one that shipped with 8, but leftovers may have been bundled with win8 upgrade, if you can call it that. I'd recommend sticking with 7.
