WTB: T420 or X220
WTB: T420 or X220
Hey,
Studying applied maths and CS here in Russia and I need a new ThinkPad. I'm looking for either a T420 or X220 (T-series preferred). If you've got either, shoot me a message and let me know the price + some details.
I'm not super picky about specs or accessories; I'll be upgrading it anyway. Only thing to note is that since the X220 is soldered, I'm not personally interested in any X-series without an i7.
Must be willing to ship internationally (Russia - Tomsk / postal code 634050). I'll pay shipping, of course, and any customs fees that arise. I can pay via PayPal, TransferWise (wire), WU, Moneygram, Qiwi or cash-in-hand (if you're near Tomsk ).
Let me know

Haha, yeah, the Russian postal system (and pretty much all other post-Soviet states') was in trouble for a long while. Things are more or less okay now, though; last year, I shipped about a thousand worth of audio equipment and other electronics from Florida to a friend in Kemerovo without any issues—other than a horrendously long customs wait in Moscow.BillMorrow wrote: ↑Tue Jul 24, 2018 11:48 amlast i heard was shipping something like a thinkpad to russia was really risky.. customs guys were stealing everything.. this was in the 2000 to 2004 timeframe.. may be better now.. or not.. only you will know..
And, thanks for the welcome!

Re: WTB: T420 or X220
I've sent a couple of systems to Russia in the past 6 months, never had any problem.
Drop me a PM if i5 IPS X220 unit is acceptable as well.

Let me know
1) My used T420s (originally purchased here from plympton for I think $540 including shipping), with IPS FullHD screen (EDIT: this one does not flicker), genuine 6-cell and bay (both are at ~75%) batteries, DVD-RW drive, 6GB RAM, 128GB mSATA SSD + 320GB HDD, and docking station. Plastic has cracked in several places, and I've had to replace the original hinges (totally broken) with ones bought on AliExpress this week. I'm thinking of $450 including shipping for that one.
2) Never used X330 (X230 with i7, 13.3" IPS FullHD screen, and classic 7-row keyboard), in "new" condition, with new 9-cell battery holding 105% (98Wh) of original capacity. No RAM, no HDD/SSD, I'm thinking of $600 including shipping (I'm selling that one because while I was waiting for Jacky to reply, I've already ordered another quad-core X330p laptop); that's basically to cover my expenses, I'm not making anything on that laptop. If you want to, I can purchase RAM and SSD for it as well; hardware prices are usually somewhat lower in Moscow than in Tomsk (right now, it's below 6000 RUB ~= $97 for 2*8GB RAM, and below 9000 RUB ~= $145 for Samsung 860 EVO 500GB mSATA SSD).
I can send any of these with CDEK domestic shipping, they have a feature of cash on delivery (so that you'll only pay after receiving and checking the laptop); it should be delivered within a week.
Alternatively, I would suggest you to check avito.ru, it is something like craigslist in Russia. You will probably find some thinkpads sold in Tomsk there.
If you'll find someone willing to ship your thinkpad from overseas, I'd recommend you to ask them to use ordinary postal service (with full insurance, of course), or EMS (in USA, it's Express Mail International), whichever is cheaper. With EMS, you'll get your package delivered to your home, but the shipping time is the same, at around two weeks (probably a bit more for Tomsk). You won't have to pay any customs fees; in Russia, there is a non-taxable limit of 1000 EUR per person per month.

Re: WTB: T420 or X220
I fitted a T420 I bought about 3.5 years ago with the nVidia NVS 4200m, upgraded it with 8GB RAM, the i7 2640m, a 256GB MSATA SSD (kept the 500 GB HDD for storage) and also put in an IPS FHD kit when the T420 non-s kits were being sold. 9/10 (or better) condition...
The screen flickers, as do most with the FHD kit, and I don't use it much compared to my FHD X220, W520, or my TP25. If you're interested in it let me know and I'll work with you on a fair price.
