[SOLD] Complete boxed Japanese Thinkpad S30

#1 Post by jonas-fr » Fri Jul 27, 2018 9:12 am

The Thinkpad S30 has been sold as january 2022 to a collector in France.

I'm currently moving out and selling off my retro-computing collection. After few months of doubt I finally decided to part with one of the gems of my collection.

So here's my 2001 piano black Thinkpad S30 in mint condition still boxed with all its guides, original Japanese adverts, restoration CDs and accessories. This is a rare part of Thinkpad history which has been mine since more than 10 years now and seldom used (always with gloves since it was mostly on display at my own private museum). It has always been kept in the dark, away from the sun, in a humidity and temperature-controlled environment and of course in a smoke-free and pet-free house. I don't think you won't get a nicer S30. The BIOS battery still hold a charge and the main battery has been kept removed from the Thinkpad so there's no leakage whatsoever from it. I don't think it would still hold much of a charge though, since it hasn't been charged for a while.

Factory reinstalled Windows ME (Japanese edition) and all the CDs are included (I also took the liberty to upload their contents to archive.org to help fellow collectors looking for them since they are (were) really hard to find : https://archive.org/details/SLCJP10)
256MB RAM
Pentium III 600MHz
20GB HDD
Model number: 2639-43J

I also include the following extras:
  • a rare external USB CD-ROM reader in piano black (match the special color of the S30) complete in (carefully flattened) box
  • an heavy (silver ?) medal of IBM Japan, part of my private IBM collection
  • a 3COM PCMCIA Wifi card with retractable antenna that matches the overall S30 design (really sleek)
I'm asking 800€ for it including worldwide shipping (tracked and insured) for what I believe it's a unique opportunity to get such a rare machine in such a great shape (700€ for in-hands delivery (I'm located in western France)). Paypal payment only (goods and services). Do not hesitate to ask me anything about it :)

After lots of potential and real scammy proposals (it's the wild west out there), the S30 is still for sale. VGA adapter is part of the accessories sold within the offer and still brand new/unused. I'm open to questions and/or sensible offers.

What I find curious is the lack of any picture(s) from the laptop exterior/lid...

Thanks, for your reply. Maybe what I understand is lost in translation since English is not my native language but I did take pics of the exterior/lid and I uploaded them alongside plenty other photos on the URL on first post. Don't hesitate to let me know what you are missing since I took the liberty to do plenty of photos while being unbounded by storage and bandwith :)

Hehe that's no problem, the site can be slow to load sometimes and might not be optimal for small screens
