WTB: T4x Series ThinkPad

#1 Post by bse5150 » Sun Sep 16, 2018 2:42 pm

I don't want to commit to anything just yet, but I'm curious as to what might be available here as far as T4x series machines go. I'm probably not looking to pull the trigger till maybe January or so, but if the right machine, at the right price, presents itself, I may jump on it.

So what do you have? And, how much?

Thanks!

Do you want 14.1" or 15"?
Intel or ATI graphics?
Would an R5x also do?
Would you have a shipping address in the USA, which would make shipping a lot cheaper...

I found shipping Thinkpads and/or used laptops and electronics to not be a problem between Canada and the US. Cigars and alcohol? That's a bit different.

Not picky. I'm just starting to collect ThinkPads so I'd welcome pretty much any configuration into my collection.

I'm not looking for a machine for any specific task or use, I'm just looking for machines to fill out my collection. Right now I kind of have my sights set on a T4x series machine... And a PPC based ThinkPad, if anyone has one of those. :D

No. Although I do live on the border of Ontario and Michigan, I do not have access to a U.S. shipping address. I don't really mind paying for shipping from the U.S. if I want the item bad enough.

Thanks!

Bse5150.

I have about eight or nine T42/T42p/T43/43p machines here, both 14" & 15", ATI or Intel graphics, resolutions of XGA, SXGA and UXGA, tons of new chargers and lots of excellent batteries.

I'm an hour away in St.Thomas, could either ship or meet you halfway in Strathroy maybe.

No rush, just figure out what you're looking for in the T4x line.

Regards.

On my hands atm I have 15" T43p, 14.1" T43, and a 15" R51.
I am happy to sell my R51 if you are interested.
15" UXGA (non-IPS but in excellent condition, XGA cable modded to work with UXGA panels)
PM 735 1.7Ghz
1.25GB RAM
hard drive size, OS tbd - I don't know which hard drive of mine is okay to be sold
Intel 2200BG
Casing in excellent condition and everything but the touchpad/buttons works perfectly - the sole purpose of me getting this machine was to part out its trackpad to work with another T43 that I sold to a customer.
Genuine battery holds mediocre amount of charge.

I'm only interested in machines with the T, X, and A prefixes. Right now I'm looking for machines whose names are prefixed with the letter T followed by the numeral 4, followed by either a 2 or a 3 and, optionally, the 'p' designation. I tried to be clear on this but English evidently is not my mother tongue.

An 820 or 850 would be a nice addition as well, but I doubt anybody is willing to offer up one of these for a price I'm comfortable paying. Not to concerned with acquiring one of these, but a ThinkPad running AIX would be interesting for a while anyway.

Regardless, I think I have a deal worked out with another member for a T43p.

Don't take that as we don't read your posts. We do, but if we have a machine close to what you are looking for, on the TP forums we will usually offer up similar machines in case you are interested. I see you are very adamant about a T42 or a T43 preferably a P.

It would help if you gave us your intentions for the machine as we can help you better find the best machine for your needs. If you are seriously only looking at T42(p) and T43(p) machines, we will help you get one of those two/four machines.

I realize that people might think I may be interested in similar machines, but the question had already been asked and answered. For what it's worth, I thought my response to the previous question made it clear that I wasn't interested in an 'R' series machine.

Already did...

Don't have a 'need', but a 'desire'. A 'need' could be filled by any machine. A 'desire', on the other hand, can only be satisfied by the object of that desire... In this case, a T42, T42p, T43, or T43p.

Also not interested in the T40 or T41 machines. Should have made that clear as well... but I didn't!

Oh I guess I didn't recognize your first part as that, sorry about that.

I also have a T22 if that's something you want. Everything works fine except that the laptop requires a push-inward for the lid to close, some missing keys and that the laptop will not come with a main battery pack. Probably due to a bent hinge and I can fix if I have time since I have spare hinges

As tempting as that sounds, I think I'll pass.

Got anything else?

A A31p with only loose ram slot solderings problem? A 14.1" T43 with maxed out specs but screwed ide hdd connector? I have a lot more ThinkPads than that but I wanna keep the rest of my collections

Only loose RAM slot soldering problems? Hmmm, I can't solder worth a crap. Nah... I'll pass.
A 14.1" T43 with maxed out specs but screwed ide hdd connector?
What exactly does "screwed ide hdd connector" mean? Sounds like I'd have to solder a new connector at minimum. And, as I already pointed out, I couldn't solder to save my life. I'm gonna have to pass on this one too.

I'm guessing the ones you're keeping are the ones that don't have issues? That's too bad...
