Looking for a ThinkPad W700

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sat Oct 13, 2018 5:01 pm

I am looking to buy a ThinkPad W700. Can even do a trade of what I got on my for sale list of ThinkPads.

I was looking at the W500 and was wondering if the W500 has the same specs as the 700 minus the 17" and dual HDD bay and NUMpad. Would the W500 support a Intel Core 2 Extreme CPU as all I see is Core 2 Duo? The W500 by looks, looks almost 100% like the T500. And does anyone have a W500 they would like to sell for a cheap price or trade in my ThinkPad sell list?

Doesn't look like W500 supports QX9300. Best bet is a W700 or a T61/QX9300 mod

It doesn't, since the graphics chip used in the W500 is an ATI Mobility FireGL V5700. Apart from the graphics chip used, there isn't much of a difference when you compare it to the W700.

Regarding the differences in detail, these are what I have noticed:
  • The W700 has 2 MiniPCIE slots, compared to the W500 that has 3 MiniPCIE slots [1]
  • The W700 uses the Serial Ultrabay Enhanced bay, compared to the W500 that uses the Serial Ultrabay Slim bay
  • The W700 uses the 82PM45 memory controller hub, compared to the W500 that uses the 82GM45 graphics + memory controller hub
[1] Some of the W700 motherboards came with 3 MiniPCIE slots, but I am not very sure of that. According to an image, FRU 45N4544 has a 3rd MiniPCIE slot.

Yes, but only the X9000 and the X9100 are supported. The QX9300, X7800 and the X7900 are not supported.
