Hi I have a bunch of long fans from T43p (some repaired with re-lubrication).
EDIT: I do have a T42p fan as well. In comparison, the fan sound is quieter (And presumably doesn't spin as fast as the TDP of these non-Sonoma 400Mhz FSB Pentium M's are lower), but the GPU heatpipe is much thinner

This came to me with a short fan so the graphics chip is not covered. This is why I think it boots up then shuts down. My concern is will the long fan from the T43p have the same screw pattern and bolt right in?

Yes it does. These fans are also capable of higher RPMs but are deemed noisier by a lot of users.

Oh no. Stop using the computer immediately, otherwise your GPU will be destroyed.
I assume you are using Fire GL T2, with an integrated heat spreader on top of the die, right?
I happen to have a T41p, T42p and several T43/p heatsink.
Again, T42p fan is quieter (But only at low fan speeds), but the heat dissipation isn't as good as the T43/p ones with lower RPM and thinner GPU heatpipe.
The T42p and T43p fans are mechanically inter-compatible in that they will fit just fine in any of T42p, ATi model T43 and T43p.
I do not recommend T41p fan unless you have the Fire GL T2 delidded, as the T41p RPM is similar to T42p and I don't find it any quieter than the T43p, and the GPU contacts involve with a square cutout in the middle of the contacts, which is designed for the naked 9600 die of a T41p.
I think if you have Fire GL T2 and a Pentium M 745 (1.8Ghz) or lower (or the Celerons), get the T42p fan and you will love the quietness of it.
If you have Fire GL T2 and a Pentium M 755 or faster, get the T43p fan as you will like the thermal headroom better with higher RPM. These CPUs run hotter than the 745 despite the same quoted TDP rating.
And if you are buying from me, dm as quick as you can with the address and option you want, with the price you expect, as I will be leaving North America on Thursday and I have to dispatch the parcel before then for you to get it.
