WTB X230 4-cell "44" battery (0A36305)

#1 Post by Jake.Werecat » Fri Nov 29, 2019 10:05 pm

Hi,
I'm looking for a genuine 4-cell "44" (0A36305) battery for a Lenovo ThinkPad X230. I'm not interested in 6-cell or 9-cell models, as I quite dislike parts protruding from my laptop. I'm only interested in genuine Lenovo part, no Chinese "wanna-be-batteries" crap. I'd love to get two of these, but one is also very welcome.
Besides sale offers, any help finding a place where I can possibly get one, would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Jake

I am in exactly the same position!
I want a 44 (4 cell) for my X230 for the same reasons: Low weight and flush profile.
The battery I currently have is a 44+ and it is not flush with the underside of the laptop and is heavy. Very annoying. However, it does have excellent performance.
I rarely use the laptop on battery, so do not need performance as I use docking stations. When not docked the charger is neat enough (I would always carry a charger regardless of battery size anyway.)
I have been trying to source a decent 44 for ages, but they are rare and very expensive.
I would never use a non-genuine Lenovo battery or charger. They are unpredictable and a waste of money, and buying used genuine batteries on ebay is a lottery.
I just bought a faulty one deliberately as a 'space filler' and to see what it is like, and yes, it is faulty (Lenovo power manager reports it as 'Error detected").
But it is very light and very neat - a much better arrangement!
I am typing this whilst docked (will try it undocked with normal charger later), so at least it does not stop the laptop from working.
My lengthy curiosity has been satisfied that this 44 battery is best for me and I will keep looking for a good one.

We share the exact same experience! I've tried 6 batteries from two different genuine reseller, every single each was faulty, resulting in the battery error and no charging. I gave them all back, and got my money back, but I still can't find the any working one  They are nice, light and smooth, but hard to find, especially with all those wide-spread faulty ones..

Yes, there are a lot of faulty and incompatible 44 batteries out there. I am still looking for a good one because in my opinion its form and low weight completely transform the X230, making it much better. The lower capacity is not an issue (for me anyway), especially with an SSD and only one memory module.
I would only need it to run a short while anyway, as I am almost always on mains power and only need the battery to keep it alive if I have to move or unplug.
A tip to minimise weight even more is to get the genuine Lenovo 2-pin "figure of 8" adapter. Then use an extremely short "figure of 8" mains cable, because the adapter itself already has a generous length cable to the laptop. The short cable is super light and neat and is only 2-core - noticeably less weight and bulk than the 3-core cable and 3-pin adapter! :)

It's true, but due to lack of grounding they tend to have floating voltage around the corners of the metal laptop chassis, resulting in tiny electric shocks to the user when used on 230V grid (never noticed it on 115V grids). It's just a potential minor annoyance, not a safety issue.

Same for me, I prefer smoothness and less laptop weight then battery power-up time. I'm also running SSD (as on all my laptops including the X61f), but two memory modules (16GB total) and Core i7 and I'd rather stick to standard 65W charger with 3-pole plug. It's still lighter then the 90W or 135W I use at home for T430 and docking station :)

I just purchased yet another 44 4-cell battery from 3rd reseller, with their assurance that no it should be working without any issues. We shall see if it works, in a couple of days, when it's delivered...

Given that my 9Cell 44++ is down to 6Wh down from 94 Wh design capacity, I think maybe a 44 would be a better idea...

My current 44+ 6-cell ran down to 23Wh from original 62Wh throughout the years.

Ehhh... I just received it and tested. Yet onther one with the exact same issue.

Will have to return it... again...

I know it's a genuine Lenovo product and SHOULD work without any workarounds and mods, but as I'm just really focused on a result, I'm just wondering if EC mod will make it work...
Also found this auction:

Looks like NOS (new old stock), but somehow effected with same issue :/
