WTB T2x RAM/MiniPCI door

#1 Post by kyle2000yt » Tue Feb 04, 2020 11:14 am

The paint on my T21's RAM and MiniPCI covers/doors just came off and now it looks awful sliver, I'm looking for a replacement for like $3-5 depending on the condition. Right now I'm going to try plasti-dip and see if that makes it look good.

NOTE: The T20, T21, and T22 share the same covers, the T23 does not!

Don't bother with Plasti-Dip, that's crap and will probably hold for 1-2 weeks, IF you are lucky.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff). And pigs CAN fly!

I don't see the problem with using plasti-dip, as long as you do it properly and use a lot of thin layers. What else is similar to IBM's old rubber coating on ThinkPads?

Check the internet for Plasti-Dip (lack of) results on ThinkPads.
Initially it looks great, but in a very short time it will start looking worse than before.
Some rubber paint 'tricks' from way back when: /viewtopic.php?t=31175
Nowadays the Magic Eraser with some IPA works really well on newer machines: viewtopic.php?t=125647

To paint those 'silver' lids, you'll need 320 sandpaper, apply some (Rustoleum) primer on it, let it properly dry and then spray it (minimum 2-3 layers) with some matte black paint, like Rustoleum Ultra-Matte.
Let it dry properly between each layer.
It will not be the 'rubber' look, because it seems nobody makes that (type of) rubber paint any more.

Another alternative: use some self-adhesive vinyl wrap.
