WTB: X61 T9300/T9500 motherboard or X62/X63 motherboard (UK)
Hi all,
I'm looking for an X61 motherboard with the top end CPU T9300 or T9500
or possibly an X62/X63 motherboard from 51nb.com
If you have one spare please PM me!
thanks

There was no T9500 X61 motherboard
EDIT: T9300 and T8300 were considered top-end; but all penryn units (T9300, T8300, T8100) are rare nowadays.

Re: WTB: X61 T9300/T9500 motherboard or X62/X63 motherboard (UK)
Ah thanks for the correction! I was going off the pinmod page which lists T9500 but I realise now that's for the T61
I found a source of T8100 motherboards, but as they're barely faster than the T7500 (or pinmod overclocked L7500) I just can't justify the expense the seller is asking (about 60 Euros posted!)

Re: WTB: X61 T9300/T9500 motherboard or X62/X63 motherboard (UK)
60€ for Penryn board is a very good price to my taste! If you have a source - please share, I'd love to get a spare for myself! It's not only faster - it is running WAY cooler and consumes less power. Note that Penryn units used a little bit different heatsinks.
T9300 proved impossible to pinmod - it has huge stability problems, even with serious voltage increase (which on the other hand caused the system to reach some serious temps). Same for T8300 and L7700. Tested working CPUs from X61 are L7100, L7300, L7500, T7100 and T7300. T7500 also did work after increasing voltage on cores AFAIR - you need to search a bit

If you were to OC the T9300 like that it would run at 3.3GHz with a 6M cache, it is expecting a bit much given the X61 form factor. Without any mod it is better than the T8100 overclocked, it has double the cache and both cores can run at 2.7GHz (dual-IDA) and there are no complications with overclocked graphics and memory.

the seller even has a few T7500 boards, an L7700 probably for X61t but the auction states X61s, and a few T7250s (which until then I didn't know existed)
I've only seen a few T8100 boards come up and I'll be honest I'm not going to pay 65Euro to get them. If it was T8300 or better T9300 then yeah I'd splurge

Re: WTB: X61 T9300/T9500 motherboard or X62/X63 motherboard (UK)
Ah I found out where I saw an X61 with T9500 ...
some crazy modder swapped an L7500 on his board for a T9500 https://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/13463 ... -mit-T9500!
Wish it was easy enough to do, or that some entrepreneurial modders in were to start doing this en masse with older boards. Love to see every X61 with a T9500 or T9300

I guess no one really cared since getting 100MHz more out of a heckuva of work, hassle and money simply did not make it reasonable

Guys, what do you mean by this or that CPU X61 board? Isn't the CPU socketed and easy to swap?
I'm looking at this X61 with T7300, isn't it a simple swap to T9300 or T9500 like in T61? I thought Middleton BIOS would take care of Penryn support. What am I missing here?

X61 CPUs (along with all other X series, among many other machines) have soldered CPUs that are darn difficult to replace unless you know how to do BGA reworking.Natakranta wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 3:42 pmGuys, what do you mean by this or that CPU X61 board? Isn't the CPU socketed and easy to swap?

Example: T9300 X61 board means: an X61 motherboard with T9300 CPU.
X60/X61 motherboards are available with many different (but all soldered) CPUs.
(On T/R/X 61 only + X300) Middleton's BIOS unlocks SATA II speed, removes wifi-whitelist, and does a few more useful tricks.

Thanks guys, I took very nice but totally incorrect assumption that X61 CPU is socketed as T60/61.
Now, knowing they are soldered, it makes the X61 with T7300 I linked less attractive. Thanks!

@Natakranta:
check that X230 from the same (X61) seller.
Or if you are in the market for an X240, let me know.

I checked and his X230 looks nice and clean. Taking into account docking station and 240GB SSD, asking price seams reasonable.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 4:36 am@Natakranta:

The thing is, with all the ThinkPads I already have, I don't need neither X61 nor X230, I just want them I'd rather should start selling mine instead of buying new.
