For the price of a cheap bottle of rum, LOL, I have for sale an R51 that I don't know what to do with. Brief description:

Exceptional external condition, very clean, almost unmarked. Pentium M Banias processor, 1600MHz. 512 MB RAM, Intel PRO 2100 wifi. Excellent screen (15"), keyboard, DVD drive.

It will boot from a usb stick, dvd drive or an external hdd, but I cannot get it to run from an internal hdd or even recognize one (PXE-E61 error message).

Hence no HDD, battery is pretty ancient (will last around 20 mins on one of its better days), CMOS battery needs replacing.

Will sell for £18 plus delivery charges to anyone in the UK. Please PM if interested.

If the screen is IPS Flexview, that alone can make it worth it to someone. Could you post the model number / screen resolution? If it's an SXGA+ screen, it should be IPS.

Good luck with the sale. :)

You can get PREBOOT and IBAUTIL (Intel® Boot Agent) there.

^^ Thanks for those two replies. I'm afraid I'm a bit out of my depth here, but on the back of the laptop it says "TYPE 1831-BLG, Serial No. 99 LZ 565. This also appears in the BIOS as 'System unit serial number'. I'm assuming that this is the same thing as 'model number'?

As far as the screen type and resolution go, I've really no idea. There's no information about this on the base of the laptop, and the hardware analysis programs I've consulted in Linux are no help either. I'd be interested to know how to obtain this information however.

Blackstuff, thanks for the links, but unfortunately I could barely understand a word of their content! The furthest I got was to disable the 'Internal Network Option ROM' from the BIOS, which resulted in getting rid of the PXE-E61 message: this was replaced simply by 'Operating System Not Found'. At any rate, I can't get the internal hard drive as an option in the F12 Boot Menu, and it doesn't show up in drive analyzers like GParted.

The CMOS battery has started working again, which is something,I suppose.

^ Thanks again! How does one extract all that info from the model number?
