WTB: IBM Thinkpad 750C LCD Inverter
WTB: IBM Thinkpad 750C LCD Inverter
Hello all,
I recently received a Thinkpad 750C as a donation, I don't believe that it has been turned on for more than 20 years, and, as soon as the contrast and brightness controls were messed with, the screen started becoming intermittent, and now its just a plain off white grid. I have read on other discussions here that it is likely the Inverter, as the backlight is still clearly working, and I saw with my own eyes the LCD panel operating correctly.
Does anyone here have a spare inverter or whole screen assembly for a 750C? It would be greatly appreciated.
My regards
Alexander

Re: WTB: IBM Thinkpad 750C LCD Inverter
Can you send me a picture of the inverter? I have a "graveyard" of 750 and 360 displays with inverters (no good panels) and I likely have a couple of them so you would be pretty sure at least one is good.

Of Course!
Thanks for the help! Photo coming soon!

Re: WTB: IBM Thinkpad 750C LCD Inverter
Checked my stock. I do not have an inverter like that but I do have a whole screen assembly from a monochrome 750. I know the screen is dead but I will crack it open and see if its the same. It does have brightness and contrast sliders like that.
Re: WTB: IBM Thinkpad 750C LCD Inverter
Well not sure if this helps but have you tried spraying anti-oxidation spray on the contrast and brightness knobs as well as the LCD connector? I believe it is called deoxit in the USA.
I have a Dell Latitude CP that works just fine initially but after a week or two the screen randomly started going out and display a fabric white pattern. I ended up taking the entire lid apart, only to find out that spraying such spray on the LCD connector fixed the issue. It seems like for that LCD and the inverter contacts are tin based and not the copper ones that we are used with seeing today, and those oxidise much more than gold plated copper ones. This is a 12.1" SVGA active matrix TFT panel though so not sure how much the passive matrix ones differ in places to fail.

750C monochrome inverter does not look like the picture so I do not have this inverter. Sorry.
