Hi Thinkpad lovers,
I am looking to buy a Thinkpad W701 to use daily. Newly thinkpad keayboard are a no go for me and I like the pitch of 15' UXGA so 17' 1920*1200 will add more to see !
I don't have a particular configuration in mind as a lot could be improve/upgrade. I am looking for a laptop in decent/good condition. The dual screen is a plus, but it is not a feature that I absolutely need to have.
Kind regards,
Serge

Re: WTB : W701
If 15" 1920x1200 and a classic keyboard is what you want, you could also consider a T500/W500. A bit less powerful but a LOT cheaper. There's also the extremely rare 16:10 T70 but that's going to be a pricey find.sergi0 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 01, 2020 12:30 pmHi Thinkpad lovers,

Personally, owning a W701ds, I would recommend considering a W530 with the classic keyboard mod. No, it's not 16:10, but the power benefits are large. The W701/ds is pretty slow now, and a lot of the drivers are a bit of a pain on Windows 10 or Linux.
Also, the battery life is abysmal. 1-2 hours, maybe stretchable to 2.5 hours on a brand new battery and lowest power settings.

701R: Intel Atom x7-Z8750 - 8GB - 256GB eMMC - 1920x1200 @ 10.1" - 701C Keyboard - WIP
T530: i5-3210M - 8GB DDR3 - 15.6" 1600x900 FS

Re: WTB : W701
15 ' 1600*1200 has the same pitch as 17' 1920*1200. !5.4' will have smaller pitch and that is not comfortable for my needs. I have a 13' Macbook with a 2560*1600 resolution. GUI scaling is useless, I want to get back to the same pitch as I had with my t42p UXGA

Fair point, and the W701 is a good machine, just keep in mind the sacrifices in battery life and cost. If you can find a W700 for cheap (sometimes they pop up around $100-$200) I'd buy it.
