WTB: T601f (Frankenpad)/HV150UX2-100/T61

#1 Post by nephreneko » Fri Jun 23, 2023 4:38 pm

I already have a t60 4:3 15" so I'm looking to purchase a HYDIS HV150UX2-100 and a t61 14" mobo. I'm also open to buying an already assembled t601f.

For new motherboards, without those nVidia problems: https://web.archive.org/web/20230128110 ... 1mobo.html

I have assembled a Frankenpad but it uses the IDTech QXGA IPS panel (2048x1536).

The specs are as follows:
X9000 Extreme (2.8Ghz base, OC to 3.2ghz and 3.6ghz but gets hot)
2x4GB (Total 8GB) DDR667
Quadro FX570 128MB (1048A2 - 2010 week 48, manufacture date) does not have nvidia defect (but just to keep temps lower, has .95V vbios (down from 1.2V?))
IDTech QXGA IPS Panel 2048x1536 runs at up to 85hz refresh rate w/ little to no artifacts
11abg wireless (atheros?)
128gb intel ssd g3

Gotta love these machines. I'm selling the New (NOS) motherboards, although at this point we are down to about one case left, so they won't be around long. If you'd like one I'd get it soon while still available as these are extremely rare, produced years after the T61 was discontinued. Sadly Lenovo had no interest in making new motherboards without the nVidia defect. They simply salvaged used boards from returning leased laptops hoping to get by until they could write them off as "end of life" and claim no responsibility. IBM on the other hand cared more about their customers so had new production boards made for their corporate customers. These were manufactured years after the the production of T61 ended in 2008. If interested feel free to message me.

I'd also recommend anyone who has one already and would like a spare that this is the time to get one. The NVS140m board is $139 plus shipping. If you've purchased one of these from me in the past I can offer you $10 off buying a spare or buying 2 or more now. I've been keeping these rare boards in our thinkpad community and I want to see every last one of these in the hands of someone who loves these laptops as much as I do. These classic thinkpads are the laptop Lenovo never built but should have.

NVS140m vs FX570m

I've sold many of both, the FX570m is the more powerful GPU however it also tends to fail more often. When these NOS boards first appeared they sold quickly at $250 for NVS140m and $350 for FX570m. We were eventually able to lower the cost of the NVS140m but the last FX570m NOS board sold for $350 in less than 2 days when listed here. Today if you want one expect to pay about $500 or more, but to be honest the NVS140m version has the same software support and is by far the best option. Keep in mind that if you are trying to get the most powerful graphics available that neither of these will run the latest games and both of these models are fully supported by nVidia with new drivers being released often. If you are the kind of person that wants the best regardless of cost then I'll do what I can to find you a FX570m, but I recommend the NVS140m, a board that originally cost well over $1000 but even at that price you would get the same bad graphics chip and today while still available you can have one for only 139 plus shipping. These are new in original sealed packaging from IBM.

I also have a few X9000 genuine core2 extreme cpu chips.

Sadly these boards will be gone soon but I'll continue to offer them to members here as long as they last.

Thanks for all the offers everybody :D. I took an offer and have one shipping to me right now although it is coming with a pre-August NVIDIA GPU. With that said, I'm still willing to buy a second frankenpad (or simply a 4:3 14" t61) with integrated graphics to compare thermals/battery life/performance to see which board suits my needs better. Depending on which board I like better, I may replace my current inevitably dying NVIDIA motherboard with a safe NVIDIA motherboard (from TuuS) or an integrated motherboard. Ultimately, I'm attempting to try different things out and want a machine that I can take care of and use for the foreseeable future. Thank you all again and I'll provide an update once it arrives. *note I am a newly registered user so I cannot reply to direct messages*

Hello TuuS,

I am very interested in your offer for the motherboards that were produced after the production of T61 has ended. Please DM me. Do you only offer NVS140m or also FX570m? Please send me also a price for your X9000 CPU.

I’m also interested in a NVS140M board if they’re still available.
Can you message me back if possible TuuS?

If you are interested in FSB modding your T61 motherboard, I also just got a Core 2 duo T9900 (and some more 4GB DDR2 sticks) if you are tired of going after X9000/X9100's. Comes off a fully working Dell Precision M4400 that I am probably gonna get quads instead since M4400 natively supports all the quads.
