For sale is a used ThinkPad 750 parts machine that is untested. As far as I know this is grayscale system and it does not have a color display. I picked this up as a project machine thinking I had the parts to put it together but I don't (don't have a compatible hard drive). The machine itself is in reasonably good condition considering it is 30 years old and doesn't have any major broken plastic that I can see. Hinges also seem to be in decent condition. The screen has some pixel rot but looks undamaged. It has a 4MB memory card installed, 1.44Mb floppy, battery (assumed bad), a PCMCIA modem and PCMCIA token ring adapter (no dongle). Asking $85 shipped CONUS or best reasonable offer.

looks like the monochrome stn needs some work but someone who is trying to rebuild a 750P might make good use of it. The snowflake on the LCD is actually fixable.
750 uses an IDE hdd so why not just keep it for it's not hard to salvage one from 750x/755x/355x/360x/370x.

how does the snowflake get fixed? I've never seen anyone put forward a fix that works for that.. I've seen on Game Boy screens that get the issue that pressure can improve it, but this doesn't seem consistent or reliable.

I fixed about 6~7 screens recently and one looked like this

its rear polarizing film needs replacement

I'm not 100% sure but this looks like the typical vinegar syndrome, and (for me) one of the easiest fix you can do. For normal tft one, films are easy to get. But for STN or monochrome STN like 750, it could be quite expensive.

The photos you've provided show a weird form of vinegar syndrome that i haven't really seen before - looks more like a rot? Interesting nevertheless, and it does look similar to this 750.
That 750 has "LCD rot" though. Issue within the LCD layer itself that can't really be fixed.

I hacked together an AC adapter to test this machine. It powers on but appears non-functional. The power switch turns the machine on and the LEDs flash and the heartbeat light stays lit but the screen is dark and the floppy drive never seeks. Also the caps lock key does nothing so this probably requires a serious repair or restoration. This is beyond any type of repair I can do so if anyone wants it, make an offer and it's yours.
