Docking stations galore!

#1 Post by Lomax » Tue Nov 22, 2005 5:52 pm

Just thought the group might want to know that someone (not me) is flogging a whole bunch (40+) of Selectadock IIIs on eBay UK. I bought one for £6 +postage and was surprised to find it was a brand new, unopened and still boxed unit! Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IBM-SELECTADOCK-3 ... 11743546QQ

Now, what I'd really like to know is what graphics card you would recommend I stick in it to get best performance/compatibility. I really want something that will give me 1280x1024 @ 24 bits externally with decent 2D performance but I've heard there are some compatibility issues with some cards. Some 3D acceleration would be nice too...

Does anyone have experience of this?

I am aware of the list at http://thinkpads.kiff.ca/selectadock3/g ... _cards.htm but it hasn't been updated for a couple of years and I can't help thinking there must be higher spec cards that are compatible. For example, do you think this GeForce 440Mx card would work? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BFG-Asylum-NVIDIA ... 26101403QQ

Your input is much appreciated!

P.S. To use the Selectadock III you will also need a Selectabase that is compatible with your particular model of Thinkpad...

After some more research I'm considering buying a Matrox G450 PCI. After all, Matrox cards are renowned for their stability and compatibility. Any thoughts?

Good choice. I love Matrox cards for non-gaming use. I have 2 AGP versions of the G400 32MB Max DualHead and the G450 and I wish I had a use for them. I keep holding on to them though I know I'm unlikely to ever find a system to use them in again.

Could you let us know your results with the Matrox card? Thanks!
