FS: T42 1.7GHz "ULV" Dothan, 1GB, 60GB 7200 7k60,

#1 Post by Aristotle11 » Mon Jan 09, 2006 12:34 am

I have a suped-up T42 IBM thinkpad for sale. Some specs:

1. Hitachi 60GB 7200RMP 7k60 Hard drive, voted the best laptop hard drive by many reviewers (just google it!). Quiet and fast.

"The Hitachi 7K60 was the best in every test and confirmed its superiority over other models in nearly every respect. So if you want to have a miniature drive with the maximum performance, you should seriously consider this one." http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storag ... 00_18.html

2. 1.7GHz 2mb cache Dothan Centrino "Ultra Low Voltage": it gets lower stable voltage than the ULV Dothans, for longer battery life and less heat for the same CPU power. Thoroughly tested at:

600 Mhz = 0.700 volts
800 MHz = 0.700 volts
1000 MHz = 0.796 volts
1200 MHz = 0.844 volts
1400 MHz = 0.892 volts
1600 MHz = 1.004 volts
1700 MHz = 1.020 volts

3. Super quiet with the new thinkpad fan-control utility.

4. Integrated Bluetooth

5. Integrated Intel 802.11 B/G WIfi

6. DVD-CDRW Combo

7. 32 MB 7500 ATI, can be underclocked to 159/159 mem/core to extend battery life and keep the system cool with NHC (Notebook Hardware Control). I've also played Battlefield 1942 and Half-Life 2 and it plays well on this machine.

8. Comes with the IBM reinstall CDs.

9. 6 cell Lithium Ion battery is only 6 month old, with A/C Adapter of course.

10. Gigabit ethernet, trackpad and trackbutton.

11. Office XP Professional, Dragon Naturally Speaking 7.3, McAfee Viruscan.

12. 14.1'' XGA screen, still the best for text, IMHO. See the reviews for more. Also, keeps it nice and light.

13. In great condition, with a clean install and all the driver updates.

I'm asking $999 shipped. If you are willing to go with a 30GB hard drive and 768MB RAM, I'll sell it for $899.

PM me if you are interested.

All the Best!
Aris

I bought it though my university IBM shop, whose one year warranty ended a few months ago.

I went ahead and put this up on ebay, in case anyone is interested. Search ebay for "T42 ULV" to find it.

Can't find it. Did it sell? What is weight? Is it lighter than T31/32? Is it slower than T32 2G?

There are no T31s or T32s

That is a PM 735 1.70GHz Dothan, correct? To my knowledge, it isn't a Dothan that is spec'ed at ULV from Intel; if by that you mean it can take a minimum *stable* core voltage of 0.700V at 600MHz and 800MHz, then OK. ULV is on the X Series of Thinkpads.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
