SOLD!! FS: Compaq Armada M300 PIII 500 - Smaller than X20
Hi,
I guess I get to join the ranks of the others that are in a hurry to sell off some things to pay for a new vehicle.
I have a Compaq Armada M300 for sale with the following specs:
PIII 500Mhz Processor
190MB ram (64MB base ram + 128MB PC100)[320MB max]
11.3" TFT display (max 600x800)
20GB 4200rpm HD
Ports: USB 1.1, VGA, Parallel, Serial, IR, 56K modem, Ethernet, PCMCIA
Headphone and microphone jacks
Docking station/Base
Base Includes:
1.44mb Floppy Drive (removable)
CD drive (removable/upgradeable)
Ports: USB 1.1, VGA, Parallel, Serial, 2 PS/2 ports (the 2nd doesn't work)
NO OS (However, I may be able to load the OS of your choice, if you provide a valid CD-Key)
I must also note, as the pictures will show, there is damage to the rear corner of the docking station. It has not effected the use of the ports on that corner, with the exception of the PS/2 port on the end. The other PS/2 port, even though marked as a keyboard, will use an external mouse. The base appears to have a lot of mileage to it. THe connections that hold the M300 down are worn and require care when seating and removing the M300. There is no damage to the laptop. The laptop itself is in great shape. The base was a "freebie" when I bought the laptop.
This was my wife's laptop, and I just recently replaced it with an X20. As you will also see, this M300 is even smaller than the X20.
I am asking $250 shipped (via paypal or money order). This price is pretty firm, with the exception of dropping the price by $20 if I remove the extra 128MB ram. This might be a beneficial move for you if you have a 256MB PC100 low density chip to place in the slot (under the keyboard) and max it out to 320MB, since there is only one slot for upgrading. Though, I have never checked to see if the 64MB was soldered to the board. (I worked on a Compaq 1600s that the base memory was removeable)
EDIT: Here are some pics:

@pianowizard: Thanks for the link, but it actually this one (M300, not M500):
http://www.softwareandstuff.com/nb_CompaqM300.html (Note: the one listed in this link is only a 333mhz, not the 500mhz)
I'm not sure about the all metal casing, as to my knowledge it is plastic, just like the docking station that it is attached to. Maybe it has a metal internal casing?!?!

The one I used to have had all metal casing (magnesium alloy I think?). The bottom part had a textured coating that made it seem plasic like, or maybe that's what you meant by internal metal casing...?tfflivemb2 wrote:I'm not sure about the all metal casing, as to my knowledge it is plastic, just like the docking station that it is attached to. Oh wow, you're right. I never really looked at it up close (dare I look at something that isn't a thinkpad). It appears that it is something like a magnesium alloy.
Unfortunately, since I just looked at it up REALLY close, there are a few more worn spots that I wasn't aware of. There appears to be some chippage (sp?) near 3 of the 4 spots that the bottom of the laptop attaches to the base. I think that someone may have tried to repeatedly remove the laptop from the base without releasing the blue button on the base.
As I look closer at the wear/chippage spots, you can see the silver coloring underneath. I never noticed it before. But that would explain why this thing is sooo light.

Yes. It has a Ambit mini-PCI card for the Modem port (part number U98.003.C.00). HOWEVER, it is not the same type of mini-PCI card that is used in the Thinkpads. Instead of looking like an oversized Ram chip, this one looks like a small MMC-2 card from the TP600 series.pcnoob wrote:does this laptop have a mini pci slot inside it?
Here are the details on the card:

Bump...anyone interested? I'd really rather not let this go on eBay.
I know that I'd probably make the worst salesman because I am brutally honest with known problems on items that I sell. I just like to have the buyer be 100% aware.
This really is a great laptop. It is a true definition of a "notebook", as it is smaller that a notebook. (10.5"x8.25"x1")
If you have your own hard drive and ram, I can negotiate on the price.

I was wondering the exact specs on the size of this unit and (finally) found this link...
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quic ... 381_na.PDF
They sure don't have support docs like IBM.

Close...the full model number is AM3 P3500T1S6C6458, which isn't in this .pdf file.t20user wrote:I was wondering the exact specs on the size of this unit and (finally) found this link...

To break this number down:
AM3 = Model number (Armada M300)
P3 = Pentium 3
500 = 500MHz
T = TFT display
1 = 11.3" screen
S = SVGA (instead of X for XGA)
6 = 6GB Hard drive (originally)
C = Combo card (NIC & Modem)
64 = 64MB Ram (Standard)
58 = Win98
I guess I'm having trouble reconciling why you are asking so much for it. I could get a X20 with PIII 600 or 500 celeron and 192MB for the same or less (about $100 on ebay). Is it because of the docking station? Does that battery still have a lot of runtime left on it? I'm just trying to understand where you are coming from that's all.

That is exactly why I am asking this price, which appears to be the going price on eBay. I paid $380 including shipping less than 2 years ago, on eBay.Aroc wrote:I think you are right. It is a very small size and he does have the docking slice.
Its compact size was why I purchased it for my wife. She wanted something VERY small, but not a PDA, because she needed the portability of her Powerpoint files. (She is a graphic designer) She really loved this thing, with the exception of the lack of a trackpoint. I actually ended up getting her an X20 which is larger, simply so that we can share a lot of common parts (ie. DVD/CD-RW, port replicator, etc.)
As for the battery, I forgot to mention that while I do have a battery for it, it doesn't hold a charge. I can include the battery if the buyer is interested. These are handle style batteries that attach to the back, versus the style that Thinkpads use. Not using the battery doesn't effect the appearance of the laptop, like a Thinkpad.

Compaq
I hope you're kidding about $100.........................
IBM Lenovo 100s 14" / T61 14.1sxga / X200 tablet / Microsoft Surface Pro 2 256GB / T61 wide and 15.4" and an iPad Air 2 and Ipad Mini 2....
If the quote is correct, $250 shipped for one including memory, ac adapter, batter and base (with drives included) is a great deal.they're going for $100 something shipped on ebay. Just with no memory, ac adapter, battery, or the base.

No offense, but if I sold that laptop for $100, I would end up being served with divorce papers.pcnoob wrote:is there anyway I can get the laptop for $100 shipped?
I really appreciate the offer, but I can tell you that I have already had offers well above that, that I have had to turn down....including $200 cash.
