WTB: s30 or other classic TP

Anyone know where I can get one?

I might settle for a 240z if I can find one, or a 600x which should easier to find.

My key requirements are: IR port, PCMCIA and XGA screen

If you have something that fits the description, please let me know (plongin@hotmail.com).

I am looking to spend about $500 - less if I can (for a rare 240z or s30 this probably is not very realistic is it?). I just bought a Toshiba R100 and decided it was way too expensive for what I needed (luckily the deal I got was so good that I actually made a few bucks selling it).

240Z was for Japanese market only. Same with S30/31. 240X is almost the same as the Z model. The 240Z series came with built in modem and ethernet. Some 240Z models had Pentium III 600MHz CPU and 20GB hard drive, and 1024x768 TFT. The 240X fastest CPU was PIII 500MHz, and they didn't come with built in ethernet, only with a modem. Also 240X highest resoulution was 800x600. If you have a friend in Japan, you can get one (240Z/S30/31) from Yahoo Auctions Japan (use altavista for translating the site). The S30 was imported by Dynamism.com for a while, but since it's been discounted, they don't have it anymore (I've asked them). But there are still some used in the US.

Good luck!

Yeah, XGA is a big deal for me so the 240 and 240x won't do.

The more I research the s30, the more I want one. The piano black finish is sweet. I won't lie, looks are important to me.

The rare 600x with a PIII 850 would be nice too.

For a PIII-850 600x you might want to ask James (JHEM) as I remember he used to love these things.

lewdvig,

Then I'm sure you would love the ThinkPad X30 10th Anniversary Edition. Was limited to 2002 units.

Wow! That is pretty. I will keep my eyes peeled for one of those too.

I have a buddy in Japan. I am going to ask him to send me an s30/1. I don't want to get too crazy - that was how I ended up with the R100!

p/m gpvillamil and politely ask if he can help get an s30 or 240z from japan.   he offered to get another s30 for me if i wanted one.

if you find an s30, i can provide complete xp or 2000 drivers and the latest bios to get your s30 up to speed.

good luck with the search!

Erik,

I PMed him earlier, but he never got back to me. Probably the PM didn't work. I'll email him as soon as I have money again. BTW where is the new (promised) T series ThinkPads.com logo?

i haven't talked to him for at least a month.   maybe he didn't want to get into the thinkpad export business? :?

haha, that thing has been in bill's hands for over a month now.   either he decided he liked the current logo or forgot about it altogether.   lol, i have no idea. :)

bill promised me "special" status and never followed through with it.   haha, i think his memory is slipping.

I picked up an a30. So I should be good for a couple of months and then I will likely have another look at the s30.

I change laptops once every month or two lately - its a nice little hobby.

He is just getting old. Seriously, I guess he is just too busy with the T42 orders. I'll drop him an email about your "special" status and the new logo.
