[SOLD] FS: --->> An X40 Thinkpad for $799

#1 Post by brainpicker » Wed Mar 15, 2006 12:45 am

Laptop sold from other postings. Thanks for looking anyway.

I am selling a used X40. I bought it off another forum member for a young man and his wife but they declined to follow through. So rather than keep something I don't need I figure I'll just sell it to someone here who needs a nice travel laptop at a great price. I had it up for auction on eBay, but my auction was pulled just as I was about to get a decent price (bidding was about $875 at he time) because eBay said I went against their policy by advertising that I was including copies of the Restore CD's. I could not contact any of the bidders and I have a bad taste about eBay now so I won't go back there unless it doesn't sell otherwise.

Here are the more important specs:

- 1.4GHz Low-Voltage
- 40GB HDD
- 768MB RAM
(I upgraded it using an extra IBM-branded 512MB stick... I don't like generic or "value series" RAM)
- IBM 802.11 a/b/g mPCI Wireless (previous owner upgraded the stock b/g card)
- Secure Chip
- Windows XP Pro with COA
- Your choice of either a 4-Cell Battery for maximum portability, or 8-Cell Battery for maximum run-time
(either is in good condition with 80-90% of original capacity remaining)

From my conversations with the original owner of this nice laptop, it has been used for less than a year but there is no warranty remaining as the date of purchase from IBM was December 2004. However, I have used this laptop thoroughly for the past 2 weeks and it is solid. It will arrive super clean inside and out as I can't stand a filthy laptop. I also used my time with this X40 to make sure the install was completely updated using Windows Update and the Software Installer. All the buyer will have to do is turn it on and use it. Of course you will probably want to set your own preferences (which I'm sure are different than mine) and such but that's it. Copies of Restore CD's will be included too (eBay can't touch me here!).

As for condition I'd say it's better than most used X-series I've come across, with the usual wear like keyboard shine and some wear on the case, but no cracks or chips or dents that I came across so far. The screen has no dead pixels, and on very close inspection I noticed a couple of barely discernable nicks. As you see I believe in disclosing everything I see, but my eyes might not be as discerning as yours  and I don't have a magnifying glass, so if I happen to have missed something important to you I apologize in advance. If you feel I really mislead you when you open the box (and actually think you can get an X40 like this much less), just ship it back to me in the same fine condition I shipped it to you and I'll refund your $799. I don't have pics as I don't have a camera with high enough rez to show anything worthwhile.

I'm looking for a quick sale so the price is $799 plus actual shipping to your location. I pack well. eCheck PayPal is preferred but I will accept other PayPal if the seller pays the 3% fee. As always, I offer escrow through Bill Morrow should the buyer require this and pay the fee. Please contact me via my e-mail address to buy or to ask questions.

Thanks,
-Yak
