Hi! I'm looking for an IBM S30! I know that it was only available in Asia.

So, what are the problems in buying such an Item from Japan? I'm from Austria / Europe.

1. Language

I'm speaking german and english. Japanese businessman all can speak english... and maybe also german I heared!

2. where to buy

I bought and sold quite a lot of Things via Ebay over Europe but buying a S30 via the japanese aucion site is a little bit risky I think... So it would be best, if I can find some japanese online shops which sell condition used notebooks! This would be the best choice I think! But I can't find any shop via google! Does anyone know such japanese shops maybe???

3. Paying

I only can pay via bank transfer, or visa if it required... is this ok?

4. Duty

In Austria, taxes are 20%, so do I have to pay 20% duty or much more?

So can you please help me a little bit? Especially for point 2??

Thanks a lot!

There is only one on eBay (US) right now, and the guy wants $700 plus shipping for it. The advantage for you is that it has an English keyboard and the seller is in France.

The seller takes paypal, so then you'd be able to use your credit card.

Oh great, now I have to go out and get an S30. Never saw one before, now I have to have it. That thing is cool.

It seems like IBM has (had) standardized on the subnote form factor around the 240/X20 size. I always think I want a smaller laptop, but when you take into acount threshold of pain with screen and keyboard size I think they were right (for a long time now). The 10x8x1 is about perfect.

Wow that is pretty sexy but I have to admit that a keyboard like that with a small screen would be unbearable to handle. Especially when compared to my t42.

Honestly, if you need something that small, just buy a PDA with an external keyboard, it might as well take as much time to open up the screen as it would to attach the keyboard accessory.

At ~5.5 pounds my t42 feels like a feather but sturdy enough to where I can do just about anything with it.

I have never used an S30 but am pretty sure that the keys are almost full sized, like the Thinkpad 240 which I have owned. It's really easy to type on the 240.

Hi,

I am Spencer from England.

I work many times in Japan, and have an S30.

I am just fitting a new LCD inverter to my S30, as the screen was flickering. After this, I will be selling it, as I now have a Mac, I use it for music programming and recording.

If you are intrested in buying my S30, please let me know. Also, I am in Japan from 15th May, if you are looking for anything from there.

I am a regular user of ebay.co.uk, my username speni_mont

You can see my feedback there.

This is my own laptop, I am not doing it for business, and it has English Windows installed. I have a seperate DVDR external lightweight dual layer also. It also has the mega 7hour battery. This alone cost me $200.

Thanks, Spencer
