Hello Everyone,

I bought a 240 about a month ago. I would like to go ahead and part with it since I already have a T43. I was going to try and use this as a carputer for my mp3s and such, but I decided that I need to go with something even smaller. (Probably a touchscreen with a box in the trunk or something like that...)

So, here are the specs:
320MB RAM
1x normal sized battery
1x extended sized battery
400 Mhz Celeron
20 GB Hitachi 4200RPM harddrive
(another normal sized battery will be included but it is very bad, lasts about 5 mins in DOS, but will be shipped incase the new owner wants to send it off to replace it's cells)

Condition of Laptop:
-lcd casing has about 3/4 inch of play back and forth from hinges, but still stays in place, does not fall on its own.
-general light scratches on top cover as well as underside,
-LCD is very good, no dead pizels or blemishes. No cracked plastic anywhere
-PC card ejecting button is stuck in the laptop (I remove the network card by pulling on dongle, will be issue for people wanting to use a PC card memory reader, since you really cant remove that once it is in, anything you can grab onto from the pc card once it is inserted will be okay to use)

Package will include:
- IBM Thinkpad 240 with harddrive formatted and partioned, ready for OS
- Belkin PC Card network card with dongle
- AC adaptor
- external floppy drive (Is actually an IBM external enclosure with an internal floppy drive that can be used in other laptops like the 600 series)
- 3 batteries as stated above

Laptop will be sent with the capability to boot to a c: prompt. Then you can PCMIA cd drive an os onto it or remove the harddrive and connect it to a desktop via IDE cable or USB enclosure.

I am going to put it all on eBay. I want to see how long the 2 good batteries will hold a charge before I put it all on ebay. I am going to test them by running down the battery in DOS with the screen on full brightness. I will post the times of each battery on the auction.

I just wanted to see if anyone was interested in me sending them a link for the auction once it is up. I plan on starting the bidding at $199, no buy it now or reserve.

Thank You,
-Rahul

$199 is a little bit pricy even for PIII-500 240x. Although your TP240 comes with two batteries but without windows system installed it won't be interesting for those who don't want to spend time and work installing systems on this laptop, not to mention there are also some cosmetic flaws of the laptop you are trying to sell.

I just picked one 240 without hard drive on ebay for less than $50 including shipping. Good luck on selling your laptop.

I too think it would be hard to sell it for $199. The 256MB module is a low-density PC100, right? It usually goes for around $45 on eBay. If you really want to get $199 for this machine, consider selling the SODIMM separately and lower the price for the 240 to $155.

I may be interested...

If you can test the batteries and let me know how long they last...if the 2 batteries you have hold a decent charge, I may be intereted.

Honestly, $200 is a bit much for a 400mhz machine. If you look on ebay, 500mhz machines regularly sell for UNDER $200 (about $185 seems to be average), and thats without any damage/cosmetic issues.

You also don't have any external drives, like a floppy or CD/DVD?

What OS did you have installed on it before?

Can your machine run divx movies??

I'm basically looking for a small machine I can use in class for Word & Powerpoint files. but I would like to be able to watch divx when I travel.

I plan on installing XP-Lite. Although I may go with Linux and Open Office. Maybe even dual boot.

Feel free to PM or email me too. Thanks.

Ah, yes it is only a 400 celery, but the 240 is a small notebook, which is nice. It you want something cheap, get a X20 instead (which is bigger).
