If you don't find one here and end up on ebay, I do have one cautionary tale. I needed a second HDD cover more my T23 that does double duty (switching HDDs between home and work...long story), so I ended up purchasing one on ebay that seemed very reasonable (read; without exorbitant S/H) I had actually used it for some time before I realized that it doesn't have the IR window in it! It's not a big deal for me since I don't use the IR function at work, but obviously the part is not an original IBM.

Yeah I know what you mean...the first one that I bought for mine was the same way, did not have the IR window...but like you, I did not need it either. Thanks
BTW....I see that you have also owned or still do a T20, are they as nice and reliable as the T23? I am curious because I may be looking for another laptop for my daughter( currently using a 600X 450 mhz) I know I REALLY like my T23!!! If the T20 is as good it would make a reasonably priced replacement.
Thanks

No I don't own it any more. I really liked the T20 though when I was using it. I was involved in IT at the time and ordered them as TP600 replacements. Although, IMHO, I think that the 600s were the nicest constructed TPs that I've ever used, the T20 was a fairly big improvement in performance combined with good build quality and excellent travel weight.

The first machines I ordered were actually Windows 98SE, then I moved on to W2K models soon thereafter. We ordered all with 256mb of RAM and they ran really well if you weren't trying to do a bunch of photoediting or something like that on it. The T21 and 22 that I owned later (purchased with my own money) were a direct result of my VERY positive experience with the T20. I ran the T22 with Windows XPP and had very few problems that I didn't create myself. Really they are the same, just faster CPUs. My last machine before the current T23 was a 900Mhz T22 with 512Mb of RAM and SXGA screen and I'll have to say that it was a really nice machine. I know that the SXGA screen isn't everybody's cup of tea, but if you can get your daughter one with the RAM maxed out, it's well worth the extra cost. And if you can also do a faster HDD, such as the 5400rpm models, then it should be fine for anything she's liable to do for some time. I've done everything on mine ranging from websurfing, office stuff, and digital music to light photoediting.

If you do decide to go that route though, I think I'd load up on the various acessories now since they seem to be in that part of the cycle where many distributors are dumping the stuff and it's VERY cheap. Later on, as the stuff disappears off the secondary market, the price of parts actually has a tendency to go up. I've been able to snag several battery (even T30 type) for less then $30 after shipping, a Zip250 drive for $15, and full docks for less than $20.
