WTT: My T42p for your PowerBook or $$$

#1 Post by asiafish » Mon Apr 03, 2006 5:41 pm

I have a like-new T42p 2373GVU (14" 1.8GHz) with 1GB RAM that I'd like to trade for a clean recent-model PowerBook or sell. No low-ball offers please, this is a very nice system with another two years of warranty. It comes with the original 9 cell battery, a second 9 cell (higher cap T43 version) and a 6 cell (also higher cap T43 version).

PowerBook should be at least 1GHz G4 and be in like-new condition.

Reason for selling/trading is that I recently set up my own office and am exclusively Mac. I have another attorney coming to work and just can't justify keeping a nearly $2000 Windows machine in an all-Mac office.

You DO realise that there is almost NO compatibility problems between the Mac and Windows XP if the tech is even remotely competent... even some of the apps can be made to work cross-platform.

I'd recommend selling the thinkpad and using the ~1500 for a new core duo.

Core Duo laptop is about $2000, and I don't want to spend any money. Since it is for an attorney, I prefer a laptop. Actually, even though all of the Macs in the office are new, I opted against buying the new Intel Core Duo models because for law applications, the old G4 and G5 machines were plenty fast, and I prefer to put mission critical applications and the data they create on tried-and-true hardware and software. As of right now, Microsoft Office, Immigration Pro (forms and client management) and QuickBooks Pro are all PowerPC optimized, with universal binary (Intel) versions due who-knows-when.

Ideally, I'd like a 15" PowerBook and some $$ for my T42p, but will take a straight sale as well and would then buy a refurb 15" G4 PowerBook. In my profession, the current Core Duo laptop has a massive strike against it beside being so very new. The MacBook Pro has a camera built into the screen bezel, which means that it can't be taken into many court rooms or federal buildings. Another argument for the older, tried-and-true G4 models.
