Well nobody had a suitable PowerBook to trade, so I am offering this ThinkPad for sale.
It is in absolutely like-new condition with only the slightest hint of shine on the "s", "o" and spacebar keys. It has the Thai keyboard and Hydis panel with no stuck or dead pixels that I can detect.
The laptop comes with two 9 cell batteries and 1 6 cell battery. All of the batteries charge to full capacity and have low cycle counts (6 cycles on the 6 cell, others are in the 10-20 range).
It also comes with four (yes, 4) AC adapters so you can keep one plugged in at home, one at the office, one near the bed and keep the other in your bag. Some of them (2 I think) are 56Watt, which work perfectly only charge batteries a bit slower than the 72Watt chargers.
Also included is the Port Replicator 2, which adds a DVI connector for a digital display.
Finally, RAM is upgraded to 1.0 GB (2X512 MB).
Everything else is all original. It is a 1.8GHz Dothan CPU, IBM a/b/g wireless, DVD/CDRW Combo Drive, the awesome 128MB FireGL T2 graphics chip and the fast 7K60 hard drive with 60GB at 7200 RPM rotational speed with 8MB cache.
The laptop is under warranty until March 2008.
I'm asking $1700 *[correction $1500]* shipped anywhere in the Lower 48, an extra $25 to ship to Canada, Alaska or Hawaii. For Canada, you are responsible for any customs, duties or taxes. PayPal preferred.
No low-ball offers please, as on eBay I can easily get my asking price, I just prefer to sell here. This is an absolutely perfect T42p with all of the most desirable components (Thai NMB kb and Hydis LCD). You will be absolutely delighted with this computer.
This is a very complete outfit in like-new condition. Remember you get 2 9-cell and 1 6-cell battery, FOUR AC adapters, an IBM Port Replicator and upgraded RAM to 1.0 GB. Even on eBay an outift like this would cost hundreds more.
PS:
Of course, if someone has a suitable 15" PowerBook to trade (aluminum model, no Titaniums), we can work out an equitable trade. My office is all Macintosh and I have a new lawyer coming on board, so I need to provide a laptop for her. I'd also consider a 17", but prefer the 15" size. Speed and specification are not important, but must be in excellent cosmetic and functional condition.

Overpriced? Is that taking into account the port replicator, 3 batteries and 4 AC adapters?

I disagree with James. I think that given the accessories that you are including, you are in the right ball park, even compared to eBay.
But again, for those that are interested....a purchase on eBay would be a gamble on whether or not the system is clean and worth the price. Buying this one from asiafish would be different, I think, because you would be buying from another Thinkpad fanatic (even though he is switching to the "dark side"

).

Funny, Mac users call Windows the Dark Side.

$1550
Final Price Drop - If it doesn't sell at this price, I'll just load OSX on it instead of a 15" PowerBook.
Still prefer to trade for a PowerBook if anyone is looking at a similar side-switch.

Yes.
A similar T42p with a port rep, Ultrabay battery, a 9 cell and a 6 cell recently went for $1231.
I track the T4Xp units very closely as I have a steady demand for them from my clients.
IMHO your's is a tad overpriced.

Now where can I find a deal like this?

Easy, if you want a cracked screen, or a worn keyboard, crack in the case or eBay seller with low feedback.

I have to side with Asiafish on this one as some people think the last sale they see constitutes the "market", when many sales of similar items have to be considered to see where we're at with a given laptop at a point in time. This isn't that stock market. There are many reasons why one would have to sell for a laptop for a lower price. Even a poorly timed auction on eBay, say one ending when a highly rated TV show is airing could cause less bidding. How badly does the seller need money and/or must they sell it right away? The bad thing about a low-priced T42p like the one James mentioned seeing is that people who don't look at the big picture now feel cheated if THEY can't obtain that same "deal" or better. Sometimes we see this expressed as people who feel the need to tell the world how little they paid ("I got this T43p and I only paid $xxxx"). So what? This isn't a contest or a competition. We're buying a tool we need at a given point in time. What it's worth to each of us is different depending on our needs, not to mention how confident we are that the seller can provide us with a stress-free transaction. To ME the seller is the most important part of any laptop I buy. I for one think Asiafish deserves a higher price as a seller just on his reputation alone. I would pay 15-20% MORE for a laptop he was selling just because I know my time and effort I'm saving not having to worry about how things will turn out, not having to possibly replace parts, and not having to clean imbedded food particles built-up over years, is worth more than the premium I'm paying. Something tells me I'm not alone, but I know I'm in the minority from the crap I see people buy with their "good deals".
An example that the last sale does NOT make the market is found on another recent sales thread for an X31. The exact same model was being sold elsewhere for $200 less (and a dozen or more available) at the same time as that X31 was originally posted on this forum, yet lots of people were interested in that X31. Even James (yeah, even him) who had recently purchased that same model for over $200 less had commented on what a great deal it was and that "somebody better grab this". Hmmm? So an X31 selling for 40% more than others currently available elsewhere and by a relatively unknown seller was a bargain somebody should grab, but Asiafish selling his pristine T42p for 20% more than some "mystery" sale is "overpriced"? I don't know about the rest of you but this don't make sense to ol' Yak.
I'm not looking to shake up any "feathers"

with my comments, as it's only my opinion.

What's the screen resolution? SXGA+ for all T42p's 14 screens?

I agree with brainpicker...I traded for asiafish's previous T42p and it has been everything promised with no problems. The fact that his history with the laptop was pretty much documented on this site also reassured me in the transaction.
That being said, I am also moving to the so called "dark side" of the Mac world and will be selling that very same laptop soon! In deference to asiafish, I will wait until he sells his before I post mine.

At $1700 Andrew's offering was overpriced, period. Even taking his excellent (and well deserved) rep here in the Forum into consideration.
Right now, at $1550, he's at the 20% premium point IMHO for dealing with a known good seller for a laptop in A+ condition or better.
I would suggest that anyone who thinks I'm being cavalier in my original response to Andrew search the FS category for similar offerings from tselling
ONE YEAR AGO that sold for similar amounts!
As far as reps go, Teresa is one of the few people that I will offer my
personal guarantee for in that anyone who purchases something from her will be happy with the transaction or
I'll refund their money if she won't!

James

That Theresa got similar prices a year ago is more a testament to the longevity of the T42p. Even when the T43 series came out, T42 prices remained constant. Now with the T60 models shipping, somehow T42s remain in demand.
I bought this particular T42p just two months ago for $1600, and that was with only ONE AC adapter, ONE battery and half the RAM. With the three batteries, 4 AC adapters and port replicator, I am seriously discounting this to make way for a 15" PowerBook or MacBook Pro.
This is as close to a brand-new laptop as you can find from a private party. It is flawless.

James, I guess I came late to this thread as the 20% premium I was referring to WAS the $1550 price based on your statement that a similar unit sold for $1200-somthing recently. So I guess we agree on that.
I have also purchased a laptop and other parts from TSelling and I agree I got a nice laptop, but I don't believe her T42p could have been anywhere near as nice as Asiafish's for one BIG reason and I will e-mail it to you as I don't with to post it here in this thread. You can then verify it if you wish but I ain't no liar and I have an excellent memory so it will be the truth. OK?
In fact, I will e-mail it to you right now.

I would have to agree that it is NOT a bad price! It is not a GREAT deal, but it is also not a bad deal either. I have been in the market for a T42p for a while, most of them go for around $1,200 to $1,500 without all the goodies mentioned...PLUS...most have at least 1 year of the warranty out the door and they come from a Corporate environment, so forget about them looking anything like new! I have seen some good ones for a STEAL, but most of these become a memory before I even made it to pick it up.
I did purchase my T42p from a reseller(new open box), he is currently selling them for around $1,700 with shipping (they have the Mack warranty) Some are with a THREE year IBM warranty but they will run more; $1,800. I got mine with 3 year NBD onsite, TPP, additional 9Cell and I am at over $2K after having him on the phone for about 1hr trying to get the price lowered. I saved about $150 from what he originally wanted.
You can purchase a "used" car from Hertz that was part of the rental fleet; or you can buy the same type of vehicle from the local "dealer" which was a one owner car! Yes, you will save a few bucks on the Hertz one, but I would rather pay a little more and know what I am getting..........................deals are everywhere, but
a deal is only such if you are getting apples for apples! And yes, that includes scratches, marks, dents, hair or lack of it on a keyboard, etc.........
For what it is worth...my $.02

As a canadian buyer, i would be much more interested if you were willing to mark as a gift, but, your comment about duties makes me think otherwise.
The idea of having to pay customs on a $1500 usd laptop makes me queasy.

I'm happy to mark it as a gift, but I cannot take responsibility for what USPS or Canada post does on arrival. If they impound it and charge you a duty it will be your responsibility, but I will mark the package however you prefer.

Hi Asiafish,
you should be careful selling this great notebook.
There is no "... I saw this on ebay way cheaper!" , because on eBay the prices fluctuate sometimes within 50% (!!) margin.
I have been trading on eBay a lot, always had great results.
Dismantle your package into components and sell them piece by piece (i.e. notebook, a battery, another battery, etc.)
Remember: selling a car in pieces brings a much higher value than selling a complete car
