Hi there, im selling my beloved TP600E after i have decided to upgrade to an X22 from ebay. It will be loaded with a virtually fresh install of XP pro (from a disk image i made on day one) and a new 20GB hard drive. the RAM has also been upgraded to 288MB (256 + 32 onboard). unfortunately the battery is completely flat, but obviously it still runs off the mains!

this machine runs XP brilliantly, internet and music playback are smooth, as are office applicaitons. im virtually unable to differentiate between the 600e and my P4 desktop in these basic tasks, if at all! of course performance lags during more proccessor intense applications such as video, music encoding and games. unfortunately I will be requiring a laptop capable of more intense video editing at university, thus the reason for selling.

there are no cracks whatsoever, the keyboard is 100% clean and no fading atall. the only cosmetic damage is where a sticky label has been appied on the lid and there remains some sticky residue and peeling. port covers and screws present and correct, and the hinges are still very firm. the eraser mouse pointer works 100% and the trackpad button still click nicely, as do all the keys etc. The screen has no blemishes, dead pixels and remains bright.

So basically this laptop has been well looked after and maintained, and would be great for anyone wanting an internet, work or music machine. id contemplated using this as a media centre with a USB remote and a few winamp plugins, so theres another idea for ya!:)

on further review I am looking for £120 (but all offers welcome) This laptop is in great condition, and ive upgraded it alot:)

XP on a 600E. Man, that must be a painful experience.

XP runs just fine on a 600E with atleast 288MB ram and a 366MHz processor or better. Atleast for some of the college students that wanted cheaper laptops.

Nope, not at all!

Pictures look good! If it was a year ago I'd jump on it.....

Also, ditto on WinXP on a 366mhz......... I had it running fine on a plain 600 with a 233mhz.... Took off some of the eye candy but ran like a charm....
I have a guy at work using XP on a 166mhz!!

I run XP on my 400mhz 600E with only 160mb RAM and all the visual candy and ClearType running as well as a desk accessory calender (Rainlendar) and a few other background apps and this computer runs like XP was specifically designed for it. Before this I ran Windows 2000 Pro and before that, I ran Windows 98SE for a little while. Out of all three OSs, Windows XP Pro SP2 gave the best performance and worked best with multimedia and the worst performance on my laptop was had with Windows 2000 Pro.

If you have at least 128mb RAM and a good hard drive, the 600E will fly like none other. I currently have a 40gb Hitachi 5k80 in my computer and before that a 40gb Toshiba 4026GAX and both drives performed very well. If your 600E ever has any performance issues, first place I'd look is the hard drive, assuming you already have at least 128mb of RAM.

the 600e makes XP painless. in fact i second what was said earlier, XP pro runs way faster than Windows 2000 pro, I use this laptop exclusivly (including what i am typing now!) even though i have TWO P4 desktops available to me, this is a great laptop! and far more portable than those cheap but huge dells that you see everywhere now!:)

I'm sure this is a nice machine but your price (~$240) may be a little high considering the battery is dead. A couple references:

I've had my 600E just over two weeks. I bought off ebay for $107 (including shipping). It had 128mb ram, 4gb hdd, and a dead battery.

I recently added:
256mb ram PC133 ($21 shipped)
40gb hdd ($49 shipped)
new battery ($41 shipped)
500mhz P3 cpu ($14 shipped)

Total cost: $232

I was bidding on another 600E last night that was upgraded to a 500mhz with 512mb ram, a 30gb hdd, a new battery, and I think Win XP Pro installed. Shipping was $18. I didn't want to go over $220 (including shipping). I was outbid with 6 seconds left and it sold for $207.77.

FWIW there's two recent 600E sales for references.

hi there, thanks for the info! things are pricier over here in the UK, from a US perspective (thanks to north sea oil and the strong pound!) and spare parts not as cheaply available. The £140 price reflects the price paid on the laptop including purchase, im simply selling at the price i paid for it a month ago, im not trying to make profit;) But as mentioned before its only a guide, as i have no other way to price the thing other than what i spent. so again, all offers below this are welcomed:D

For his side of the pond, his price is actually very reasonable.

If you want to know what a good price is in the UK for computer stuff and Thinkpads, find something for sale at a good price in dollars.

Take that price and swap a £ for the $ and that will be a good price over there!

FWIW, the 600E is a pretty good machine. I purchased mine from another forum member back in January and I now use this thing more than my Athlon desktop. With a good hard drive, ample RAM, DVD drive and Windows XP, this computer is more than sufficient for my everyday tasks. Aside from Office XP, my MP3 collection, a few DivX movies and some multimedia software, I've also managed to cram a few games on here too. I've been able to run without glitch Half Life, Counterstrike and all the other spin-offs like Blue Shift and Opposing force and my 600E.

in case anyone wonders this great little machine is still up for grabs!
