"has anyone tried to flash the firmware on the 7K100? I just installed one I bought from CDW ($239 for 100gb in-stock) and got the infamous 2010 error message. I'm going to install Windows anyway and then compare performance installed in the machine v. installed in the 2nd hdd adapter (which uses a PATA interface)".

take from thread in t43 section

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... &start=150

WAY cheaper than ibm (and what i acutally paid for it ), its O.E.M, flashable, and works.

I will take a reasonable offer

Regards.

So what are you trying to say, that a 7K100 or any third party drive will now work in a t43 and r52, without an error message?

If so i will still take a reasonable offer, its doing me no good sitting hear.

WRT the 7K100, yes.

A very wise decision.

IMO a thinkpad option drive is always worth a few $$ more than the same drive from zip or others..

a question..
SATA or PATA..?

That part number is from the T43, so I would assume PATA (google agrees with me on this, but IBM doesn't include a very detailed description on their website).

.
I was under that impression as well, guess its not worth more to some.

The drive is meant for a t43 and it is PATA.

for me, once the 2010 error message issue has been dealt with (per james' link) then i would always take the lower cost route rather than the thnkpad option route..

some people would choose otherwise, thus the small increase in percieved value..

remember, i sell the bracket used on the option drives and the value of your drive should reflect this additional cost/value as it comes with the bracket..

FWIW, the new T60 drives come with rubber bumpers and a different bracket and i am assessing whether to make this new bracket and whether to include the rubber bumpers which are easy to swap..
or whether to bother with these things at all..

it is worth more. if you have warranty, and your drive is an ibm one, then you can get them to handle it for you.
