SOLD: ThinkPad 760ED
I have up for sale or trade a decent condition ThinkPad 760ED; model 9546-u9a. It has a good battery that lasts anywhere between an hour an a half to two hours and a 1.2gb hard drive with Windows 98 installed. Overall, the computer looks pretty good with very few scuffs and a great looking and very bright 12" XGA screen. However, there is a minor hairline crack near the power switch, the IBM logo is missing from the lid and the modem port cover is missing. The 6x CD drive for some very odd reason works under DOS and allows me to install Windows yet won't actually work when the OS is installed, I haven't the slightest clue why but it's had this problem through many Windows installations. There is also a certain quirkyness to the screen every now and then.
The computer powers up fine and with the exception of the mentioned flaws is in excellent shape. The only reason for me selling this computer is the lack of space I have in my room; I really need to do some cleaning. The inside of the computer looks new and everything runs great. If anyone is interested, I have pictures availible upon request of all sides of the computer and of the computer on and running Windows.
I'm open to any trade or buy offer with the minimum requirement that it be able to compensate for shipping.

Wow, a 760ED. My second notebook that I owned was a 760ED. Got it when I was 17. First notebook was a Toshiba Portege (also a very nice notebook). I really enjoyed the way you could pop up the keyboard and swap out the CD drive, battery, and hard drive. I always thought it was a slick design. As a side note for those buying, if you are thinking Linux, my last experience with this notebook and linux wasn't the prettiest thing. Of course, that was practically eons ago (6+ years I think). Anyways, I always enjoyed the form factor of the 760ED and found it to be a very charming notebook.

I've always liked most of the 760 design myself. Personally, I think the keyboard is nothing to phone home about but the screen on those computers is one of the best I've ever layed eyes on. I also like the power management and the build quality alot.
As for Linux, I am aware that the proprietary mWave audio system and the wierd video system with the MPEG functionlity are both "iffy" under Linux. Specific information and workarounds for existing problems can be found if you google search 760ED and Linux. There are quite a few websites out there devoted to running Linux on these computers.

It's going to run linux. Probably Puppy, since that's my favorite low-resources distro.

When Puppy2 gets out of alpha testing, I'll try using a CompactFlash card for a hard drive. I already have the laptop IDE-CF adapter (ordered several direct from Hong Kong).

Just let me know where to send the computer after I get payment.
I've never heard of such a thing as IDE to CF. I'm interested in how that would work out. Let me know how things go with that whenever you have them.

I think some CF converters would be fun to play with but I'm not too sure I'd have much use for one personally. Maybe if I could get a 4gb or larger CF I could use it in my 560X which gets carried around and used alot.
Well, anyways, the 760ED is sold. I'd like to give a thanks to everyone who looked.
