Since I've managed to get some of my old junk cleared out, I now have room for new junk and I figure that because of this, it'd be fun to see what $50 will buy me nowadays. I've decided to set a small fraction of my latest paycheck to the new junk collection. Since I would rather not have to spend time in negotiation and bidding for this, I'm going to have this rather simple. I'm looking for the absolute best laptop I can get my hands on for $50. Requirements include working screen, good battery, RAM and a caddy/cover for the hard drive. I do not require hard drive. I'd prefer that there be a Pentium II in the computer. Actually, I'd like better but I'm trying to keep somewhat realistic.

Well, anyways, with the requirements listed, I am looking for the best laptop that $50 will get. PM or reply if you have a bid.

Alright. I'm in no hurry, I figure I'll keep the $50 "junk fund" reserved for at least a week or two unless I see something pop up here that I must have that falls into the category of something non-essential.

However, $50 plus shipping is more realistic.

At this point, I can only offer you one option, possibly available on eBay.

HP Omnibook 4100 & 4150 laptops are great machines, they initially ran from $4,000 to $5,000! Sometimes they sell around $50 on eBay. Processors range from PII 266MHz to PIII 500 MHz.

With swappable drives and batteries, these don't disappoint.

One of my friends showed me the red paperlip blog yesterday after I mentioned my forum post and after reading I've decided to revise my terms. That's a good trade up.

If I remember right, I have a friend who did something similar but started with him hugging someone for a guitar pick and he kept trading up until he had a Ti graphing calculator.

Well, if it would make things smoother, I will change my terms; the $50 will stand but only if RAM is not included as I don't need RAM if the computer is PC66 or PC100. However, if ample RAM is included, the shipping price will be separate from the $50 buying price.
