FS: New IBM-sealed T42p 2373GUU PM745 1GB DVDRW 60GB 7200RPM

First, thank you to Bill for giving me permission to post this here.

This is the last GUU (I bought 3 at the beginning of June, kept one for myself, etc.) I have and I want to blow it out fast.

Detailed spec.'s are available from the source here. To compare to other models, please see the ThinkPad Reference (pdf).

For a valid comparison, make sure you're looking at a new (not refurb)
model with:

- 1GB 333MHz RAM
- the 7200rpm 60GB HDD (80GB is 5400rpm)
- the RageGL T2 with 128MB
- Bluetooth
- 802.11a/b/g (i.e. all three)
- multiburner DVD-RW/CD-RW

This machine is covered by the IBM International Limited Warranty 'til June 3, 2007 (2005 for the battery).

I offer this machine to ThinkPad.com members for $3179, including free UPS next business day shipping with insurance, customs clearance from Canada to USA (there is NO DUTY), and COD. Acceptable payment forms are draft (or cashier's cheque) from a major bank or money order. If you're willing to settle for any lower grade of UPS service, I will reduce the price accordingly.

Unfortunately, my company is registered for GST in Canada, and Manitoba's PST. Thus, I must charge Canadians 7% GST and Manitobans an additional 7% PST. I will give my countrymen a discount equal to the cost of customs clearance, however.

Of course, the greatest hurdle is trust and COD is by no means an ideal solution. Nor is escrow, which is real expensive. I'll tell you upfront, if you're thinking escrow, you'd be better off buying directly from monsieur Bill.

Of course, noone here knows anything about me and, though we've talked about it, Bill and I have yet to do business, so he can't offer a reference. I've sold 3 machines on EBay, though I've only got feedback for 2, so far. I just sold and shipped out a T41p yesterday (i.e. TPad 3 of 3]. It went out by ground to Ottawa from Winnipeg (MB, Canada R3E 2T8) and UPS doesn't anticipate delivery before the end of Tuesday August 3.

I've asked Bill if he would be willing to act as our trusted intermediary and he's thinking about it. It would work just like escrow: you would send Bill your payment. If Bill says it's OK, I'll immediately ship the machine to you and you'll have 24 hours to check it out. Once you've checked out the unit, or the 24 hours have passed, whichever comes first, Bill will send me the money. We haven't worked out what Mr. Morrow's commission (which I will split with you) would be, though I'm sure we can arrive at an equitable arrangement, IF he's amenable to the idea.

Sorry for being so verbose! Anyway, blast way! Feel free to share your thoughts by posting to the thread or sending me a PM (or using the contact member facility in EBay, if you want to authenticate me as the feedback owner). I'll be happy to share my (verifiable) address information and phone number, should you prefer to talk.

I plan to list it on EBay tomorrow, because I want to turn this thing back into cash ASAP.

Thanks!

Murray

Hi Murray,

Just one small question: is that price US$ or CDN$ ?

Sorry, it's US. It lists for $3,899USD. If you want to make me a reasonable offer, please feel free.

I also have a T41p 2373GEU that I'll let go for $2,379USD, with free ground shipping by UPS. This one is on warranty 'til June 8, 2007 (2005 for the battery).
