WTB: R40 parts
well,
I bought an R40 (2682-NU2) from ebay, hoping I can get it working. I have to send the motherboard out to be repaired, in the meantime I could use some parts:
LCD screen
working motherboard would be nice, but they look to be pretty expensive
wireless card
cd/dvd
"home button" from keyboard
recovery cd's?
Regular P4 1,800 CPU (it apparently has celeron 1800?)
appreciate any odds and ends you might have
thx

I have a used R40 keyboard I would part with for a fair price.
It works perfectly, including the mouse section, some keys are slighly glossy, all lettering is clear.
Let me know.

And another thing, who is repairing your system board? Any previous experience or luck?

I am actually sending it out to a shop in Toronto. I've found a few online sources of repair. Roughly $125 for the contact I have in Toronto, about $100 in the US. There was 1 compnay on ebay selling repair coupons. I sent an inquiry, and they sent back an estimate based on common experience with (T23)
I'd love to be able to do it myself. I'd but the equipment, but its locating the replacement IC's. and of course troubleshooting the problem.
if you need a contact for repair, email me (basscleff@gmail....)

It's amazingly sketchy trying to get a mobo fixed. I've tried one of the eBay guys, but after weeks, they sent back the machine - they couldn't do it.
IBM wants too much for replacement mobo's.

I'm hoping the Toronto contact i have will work out.
IBM actually charges or storage, when I worked there, that was one of the biggest complaints I had. Parts would cost more than the system was at new.
LCD's for 765 series were $1,800 US.
if this repair service contact works out, I'll let everyone know.

I have an original cisco aircard (802.11b) and original dvd/cd-rw drive that I upgraded on my r40 I'd part with for a fair price.
I have the same handle on ebay for feedback purposes.
