FOR SALE: R50p 15" UXGA 128MB FireGL T2 Like T42p $899
I found I'm not getting the use out of this nice R50p like I thought I would, as playing poker isn't making good use of 128MB FireGL T2 Video graphics and 1600x1200 UXGA Screen! Therefore, I'm selling it. As you can see by the specs this was the top R50p made and it's pretty much like getting a T42p stuck into an R-series shell (see IBM's Mobile Workstation comparison PDF here: http://tinyurl.com/hdtsz ). I upgraded the DVD-Burner to the latest version available (like in our brand new R52's) after my purchase last month, and I could even sell it with anything up to 2GB of RAM too for the right price. It is in very nice condition, very clean, and there are no bad pixels I can see. The install is recent with full updates of Windows XP and IBM/Lenovo Software & Drivers. It's ready to use out of the box... and I have THAT too! Warranty is the remainder of the 3-year IBM until January 2007. If a setup like this interests anyone please contact me via E-MAIL.

Still available... should anyone have an interest. I don't want to have to play the ebay game if I don't have too. If you are not going to travel much with a laptop I can't imagine most folks needeing anything better.

No. There weren't any dual-layer burner's made by IBM for the R5x series, but the one in this laptop IS the latest version. However, I have a brand new NEC dual-layer burner that I would be willing to swap for the burner in this R50p. I'll take the rails off the installed burner and supply them with the new burner for the buyer to install to their liking. OK?semaj wrote:is it a dual layer dvd burner?

I haven't bumped this for a long time, so I guess I'll lower the price to gauge interest. If it don't sell now then I know no one needs this kind of laptop right now. Maybe I'll just mount it on the bathroom wall so we'll have smething to do while we're in there!
If interested please look at the original post on top.

I may be interested in this.
I've never seen an R series in real life, how's the build quality compared to the T30? How's real-use battlife when running dual batteries?
From the specs and pictures, this machine looks to be more of a child of the T30 than the T40 does.
My T30's been a good girl but she's getting a little pokey and the fireplace CPU makes my legs sad.

Build quality: R series are built like little tanks. Very solid.desdinova wrote:I may be interested in this.

Batteries: I never ran it with more than the main battery. I do not have the ability as I do not have a battery for the Ultrabay. Someone else will have to answer this.
Thanks for asking...

Well the day has finally arrived (bathroom wall mounting day). Though not an official US holiday, if no takers by the end of the day I'll be heading to Lowe's for some attractive mounting solution and a cleanable plastic keyboard covering too (I don't shop at Home Depot as in my area they only offer self checkout and I'm not supporting a company too cheap to hire cashiers to take my money). Perfect opportunity to get this done as Mrs. Yak is travelling. I will, however, need one of our resident legal minds to recommend a good divorce attorney by the middle of next week!
Last chance to buy this wonderful laptop.

John,
Please don't! We'll vote and make it a holiday!!! I probably can afford more than I said to you, but still no where near your asking price..
GOOD LUCK......
Maybe we should start an informal vote for the "R50p Day".
I could use another day off.

I'd buy a ticket, even though I have no use for such a beast.

I'd probably buy five or ten tickets, but I still can't figure out what I'd do with such a large lappy.

You are correct. I never thought of doing that with a laptop, but it's a nice idea, especially when it's an item I have no use for but is nice enough that others may. Any time I sell a part, or when I used to buy & sell less-costly laptops for the local kids, I use(d) the proceeds for my donations anyway. I'll speak with the founder or a board member and post here when it goes through.JHEM wrote: Raffle it John!
You're a 501(c)3, sell 100 tickets at $20 each, proceeds go to the Cats!
James
Thank you James, and all of you who have expressed interest in supporting his idea. Of course now I have to return my beautiful acrylic mounts and find another reason for Mrs. Yak to divorce me. Hmmm, she did say "...if you buy ONE more laptop without selling any of the dozen we already own...", (she exaggerates... well, slightly) so maybe... Nah, she's a good gal. Of course she's away for a family reunion so she doesn't know about the TWO Thinkpads I just bought this morning! I guess I'll have to sell two more from our stash (or raffle THEM too). Anybody need a nice X41-Tablet???
Thanks,
