This has been used for about 2 weeks, warranty is good until 4/25/09, can provide serial # for those who are seriously interested.

Quick stats:

1gb ram
DVD multiburner (DVD+-RW, and DVD+R dual layer)

I upgraded the ram to 1gb ram (2x512mb) matching sticks, so it runs in dual channel. Also includes 1 of these:

I am going to go ahead and purchase a macbook I think...seeing how IBM will be giving me a thinkpad in a few months when I start working.

hey, hopefully someone who really wants one of the sleeves will buy this just for the sleeve :P

I am still on the fence on this one...but the macbook w/ my EDU discount comes out to $1277.xx, which seems like a pretty great deal. I may just wait though..i'm sure amazon will offer these even cheaper in a week or two. Then again...I am impatient. I did buy 20 of those sleeves just so I can get one myself :)

MODERATOR EDIT: Please be sure not to list Educational prices for Thinkpads, per forum rules. I am leaving this post here, since it is regarding a Dell and NOT a Thinkpad.

well, someone better buy this soon, because i will probably change my mind and decide i'd rather have a thinkpad at any minute.

(I'm actually leanign towards keeping it now...but money can change my mind!)

Word is out - looks like all currently Core Duo (Yonah) laptops should be fully upgradable to Core 2 Duo (Merom).

Proof:

No mods, no BIOS updates.

NOW I'm SERIOUSLY considering taking this thing off your hands.

Brent,

Some people say it is easier to ask forgiveness than permission . . .

i'm keeping it I think, but if someone offers me the asking price of $1400, I will seriously consider selling it. I wont be bumping this thread anymore

I cant say it was Brent that changed my mind...I have no desire to upgrade the CPU, especially with a 3 year warranty left.

I read some stuff about the macbook, and it doesnt seem to be all that great. it has integrated graphics, and the weight is 5.1lb, so its about the same as the thinkpad.
