"Hi, I would like to send this laptop to my friend. She lives in Rusian Federation. Please provide me with the shipping cost to this place via USPS airmail 4 - 10 days or USPS Express 3-5 days (you can check it at usps.com). I can pay you today via PAYPAL. If I buy this laptop and pay for it via paypal can you ship today? If you agree tell me the total price."
wow, those guys are still at it..
the key is "can you send it TODAY"..!
they always want you to rush so you forget to be cautious..

Yes, sounds stinky indeed. Apparently typical Russian/Nigerian scam...

I am surprised they did not want to wire you the money. How do they scam you using Paypal? I am curious.

Actually, sometimes, what they do is use Buy-it-Now that ends your auction. Then they send you a modified "you got payment" PayPal message saying that the payment will be released to your account after you ship the item.
They will also insist on scheduling a fedex pickup in order to pick up the item, instead of the seller using ups.
That happend to me once, and i was [censored] that ebay would not refund my insertion fee or 8 bucks after they used buy it now to end my auction.
Also this last guy i talked to with a "client" in Nigeria kept emailing me to send him the item outside of ebay even after i told him no. My response to him was "you can write english, but can you understand it. NO!"
Oh well.

It was not too much money at that time, but boy I was pist....

Just learned a lesson: "stolen PayPal Account."
It never happened to me but it is nice to know this scenario. Some peopel just got too much time.

The question is - how can the seller possibly know that the PayPal account is stolen ?
Presumably, the precedent is accepting counterfeit currency - but in actuality, it is possible to examine the currency.
Thinking about it, you would have to e-mail the address used to send the PayPal money and ask "Did you send this payment? Just checking.".

Most important part to make sure you ship to the confirmed address. The address on PPAl accound should match shipping address (no gifts for friend or sister). Plus for iinternational shipping wait for 3-5 days after the payment received to ship the item
Otherwise PPAl will reverse the payment from you to the actual buyer (owner of stolen account)
