FS: The Moderator's IBM ThinkPad T40!

#1 Post by K. Eng » Tue Jun 06, 2006 5:08 pm

Now you can own the ThinkPad of one of the moderators! My T40 is up for sale. I need to raise money for a new notebook. This T40 is best suited for office & web work, and light multimedia.

Specifications:
+ IBM ThinkPad T40, Type 2373-12U, with upgrades
+ 1.30 GHz Pentium M (1MB cache, 400 MHz FSB)
+ 855PM chipset
+ 512MB DDR SDRAM (2 DIMMs, 266 MHz)
+ 30GB HDD (4200RPM)
+ ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics (32MB memory)
+ 14” XGA display (1024x768 native resolution)
+ IBM 802.11a/b/g wireless adapter
+ 10/100 LAN
+ 56k Modem
+ CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive
+ 6-cell battery (will hold a charge of about 18 Watt*Hrs, or 90 minutes of moderate use)
+ AC Adapter
+ There is no warranty remaining on this system.

+ Windows XP Professional (SP2). The system will boot into an administrative account, and you can set up your system from there. I have removed all Windows and BIOS passwords.
+ The system has Windows Firewall, AdAware, and AntiVir installed, so the system should be well defended out of the box.

+ Asking $450 shipped, United States ONLY. I will take money orders and personal checks.

+ Will ship via USPS Priority Mail, Insured

+ EMAIL all offers and questions to the address in my profile – I can ship as soon as tomorrow. You can check my trustworthiness by looking at my eBay feedback (under kbrianeng).

Notes & Disclosures:
+ New keyboard and bezel plastics: I recently had the keyboard and the base bezel plastics completely replaced. Everything looks new. The keyboard is exceptionally stable due to my innovative use of thin packing foam on the bottom.

+ Stuck Pixels: There is one stuck red pixel and one semi-stuck blue pixel (only sometimes visible) in the lower left hand quadrant of the display. These are normally not annoying in office applications, and thankfully they will not interfere with wide-aspect DVDs (because they show up in the black bars at the top and bottom of the display when a DVD is playing).

+ CD-RW/DVD Drive: Will not write a CD-R disc faster than 8x speed.

+ Repair history: Total of three system board replacements. The last replacement occurred in early May of this year. Lenovo’s executive relations team oversaw the repair, and as far as I can tell, they did an excellent job refurbishing the T40. Everything works well.

+ Testing: I ran both PC Doctor and 3Dmark2001 on the ThinkPad, and everything seems fine. I will run an additional test using these applications before shipping.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

I think current the demand for computers is extremely low. You might want to wait until the end of August when studens begin their fall semester.

Yeah. I'd prefer not to feed fees to eBay/Paypal.

Ok, let me think about this. I am not very confortable with MO and checks.

Actually, you can have a personal account. There is no fees involved.

No fees for sending money.

If you receive money, you are limited to non-credit and debit card funds. Plus, you can only receive $500 of funds from paypal auctions per month.

You can always get a US Postal Money order which is guaranteed and has trackability.

Furthermore, K. Eng has been a moderator here for a long time. I am sure that you will be more than ok with this deal. Speaking of which....if only my wife would let me, I'd take this one in a heartbeat.

Actually, I had just bought an identical T40 only days before, for more money, else I would be interested.

By the way, since the PayPal fees are about $10, you should just raise the price to $460 and then accept PayPal.

I scoured ebay for T40's for a week or two, and no unit sold for less than $450 plus shipping - you should have no trouble selling it on ebay.

However, there might be less traffic for the next month due to the World Cup (and summer).
