FS: T21; stopped booting- will sell for parts

#1 Post by findrivr » Tue Jun 13, 2006 12:49 am

I've had this unit for about 2 yrs; second owner and has never been a road machine. During my last on-line session, it just shut down and would not re-boot or get past POST. I checked my HD on a friends system and I didn't lose data. Out of warranty May-04 [s/n 78HGW20, type 26479au] All original PIII-850mhz, 128mb ram W2K Pro COA attached, except I will keep HD.

This model has the 3Com combination V.90 56Kb modem and 10/100 Ethernet LAN, SXGA 14" w/out dull spots or dead pixels and overall the case, keyboard, hinges, latches and ports are all intact with a couple of minor scuffs [not gouges] on the lid. DVD Rom, AC adapter and the battery which has never held a charge, but it fills the slot.

I suspect that it may have lost the motherboard, but I can't be sure and I'm too aprehensive to test w/my HD in it. I'll say it's a parts machine w/potential- $150 firm + 1/2 shipping by your choice fr/ 92011.
If interested I'll send close up photos- if not, it 'll go on Flea-bay by this Friday. Inquiries by email: jps10@sbcglobal.net

Montecarlo, no; never had recovery discs [never needed any, fortunately], other than an emergency boot floppy I made. That disc will go with it, but I'm pretty sure it's not a Windows boot problem, since it won't even get past the POST and show me a Power On Password DOS prompt. Like I said, my HD survived and was fine when checked on another system.
The way it just shut down during a web session, no blue screen, no error messages,...nothing- just off, makes me believe the motherboard failed. From the post by 'AssPenny' [and other threads on this board] it is apparently very common. I don't know how difficult a component a m/b is to replace, but they appear to be plentiful from aftermarket surplus parts retailers on-line.

Let me know if you need more info or pics.
