Testing: T23

#1 Post by Temetka » Tue Jun 13, 2006 1:45 am

I am considering selling my beloved T23. So here's the salient info:

Model: 2647-4RU
1.2Ghz Pentium 3
1GB PC133 RAM (2x512)
60GB Toshiba MK6026GAX 5400RPM 16MB Cache
Ultrabay devices:

DVD-ROM/CD-Burner
1.44 Floppy
250MB Zip Drive
Ultrabay Battery (cant get it to charge)

It comes with the docking station, AC adapter, stock T23 battery plus T30 Battery.

I was thinkging somewhere around $400 for the unit + shipping. This machine runs perfect. The LCD is in great condition with no dead or stuck pixels (that I can see). The physical appearance is excellent. Rub the case down with a soft cloth (I use a jewlery cleaning cloth) and it almost glows in it's dark IBM way.

I cannot tell you how great this machine has been to me. However it is time to move on to more powerful pastures. I am attending my 2nd year of college and need a more powerful laptop.

Note: I can provide an install of WinXP , however you will have to finish the install (type in your s/n) and wait for windows to create your account.

Questions are welcomed.

Thanks in advance. Keep in mind that I am testing the waters. If the offer is good enough (or someone wants to buy at my price) then the laptop WILL BE SOLD. The only feedback I have is e-bay (mlucas2600). However my rating is over 96%. I ship via UPS and you pay via paypal. Nice neat and quick.

I could sell this easily for $400 locally, but here in the forum, it might be just a tad too much....although, it does have the 1.2ghz cpu, 1gb of ram and a fast hard drive.

$350-375, might be more realistic....or maybe $400 shipped, if you are lucky.

I will tell you that right now is a tough time to sell a laptop, especially for its full value. The best time is during the summer just before school starts, or around Christmas.

I have to agree. XGA display, lack of internal WiFi, only a 5400RPM HD, W2K license vs. XP all detract somewhat from the unit, although the "extras" offered make up for that a bit.

Your present asking price is at the upper range of what these units sell for on eBay. If you want to maximize your return on your machine I would suggest offering it there or on Craigslist.

MODS:

I have input my location.

Others:

I have thought about it about a bit. I can add a Belkin wireless card. It works great in both linux (suse, mandriva), xp pro, win2k, and win98. I can also toss in a carrying case and shipping for $375.

I would say, $375 is a nice deal. The HD is pretty large and reasonable fast. Lots of RAM, Wifi, DVD-CDRW... that's a great package. A prospective buyer might be interested in the condition of the batteries.
You shouldn't have any problem to get rid of it, good luck!

T23

#7 Post by dorronto » Wed Jun 14, 2006 7:41 am

Much better and more realistic price for a pretty loaded T23.

Considering the price, maybe a pic or two would push it....

Good luck,
Ron

That's a good idea. I'll see what I can do about getting some pics up shortly. Thanks.

Edit: Is it okay to go dutch on the shipping? Laptops w/ docking stations are expensive to ship. Please let me know if this is cool. Thanks.

Ask for what you want, but accept offers to review.

I have an A30 listed for $300, there is another A31 listed for $315!!!, I can barely contain myself from buying it, and a T40 just sold for $450 or less, my finger was itching on that one, too.

With Lenovo selling new T60's for $850 (buy.com), I'd say prices have slid, quite low.

That being said, yours is well upgraded. You could always downgrade it, sell it for $300, then sell the fast disk and extra memory for the last $100.

That would/should work. Just more effort.

I know that feeling....Strip it down-sell lower-sell for parts.....

You do what you have to do to make a SALE.

Bottom line is to sell it...

You can buy a Z60m (widescreen 15" WXGA) for $799 directly from Lenovo.

Conversely used Z60m's probably sell for much more than that on ebay, because there are always some clueless buyers driving the prices up.

Traditionally, used computer pricing has always been way too high, because the technology always advances faster than the deterioration of the equpment. I remember a software manager in the 1980's who used to complain to me that his IBM PC was always worth less than the payments remaining on it ! :)

By the way, 96% feedback is pretty bad - although it depends on the specifics - sellers can certainly get some negative from those same clueless buyers who can't read the description and expected something else.

PS You can also buy a dealer-return "factory sealed" T23 for $350 plus shipping...

Obviously no one want to buy my machine. You all seem to get better deals.

MODS: Lock this. I'm off to e-bay.
