Thanks,

Well, is it that you don't have DVD RW *as well as* CD RW or do you just not have DVD RW? You should be able to make a set if you have at least CD RW ability.

You can also call IBM/Lenovo up and explain to them that, since you don't have a DVD/CD burner on your syste, you can't make the R&R disks. I am pretty sure they would be willing to ship you a set for free.

Also, all WTB and FS posts go in the Marketplace; besides, I am sure somebody would be willing to make you a copy for the cost of shipping.

HTH :)

My apologies, MBR, Thinkvantage, and XP Home Issue

#3 Post by xtern0 » Sat Jul 15, 2006 2:02 am

My apologies for the previous OT post.

Problem is because our admin got me a T60 with XP Home on it. We have a corporate copy of XP Pro, hence the attempt to save some $ on a non-standard notebook purchase. I'm still playing with the R&R utility; maybe I can make my own recovery partition off of the XPPro installation. I'll search around here and see what I come up with.

On Topic:
Thinkvantage occasionally has problems when you install a new O/S on the box. A fresh install of XP Pro did someting to the MBR so ThinkVantage no longer worked. Even after installing the ThinkVantage tools (which was strange).

Upon completing the recovery by changing the boot priority to HDD2 (see previous posts under recovery CDs by me), much to my chagrin, It's XP Home! GRRRRRRRRRR....the response I was given was "We already bought XP Pro, you should just use that."

So I'm looking for the DVDs, I don't have a DVD burner, but I do have a CDROM burner. I'd rather have a couple DVDs than 8 CDs. Real recovery disks would be ideal, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Lenovo is going to tell me to hose myself off if I ask for XP Pro recovery disks, since the box was purchased with XP Home on it.

I'm pretty much throwing in the towel and installing Vista for sh*ts & giggles over the weekend.

Cheers,

x

Ahhhh, I see. Hmmmm... :|

No apology needed for an OT post, by the way. ;) :)

I will look around and see what I can find to help out. :)
